Teen Arrested After Father Turns Him In Following Two Georgia Shootings

A 16-year-old Georgia teen was arrested Tuesday after his father turned him in to police following a pair of shootings that left another juvenile wounded, authorities said, as reported by Fox News.

The suspect, Lequan Stephens, faces charges of aggravated assault, according to the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office.

Law enforcement officials said Stephens was wanted in connection with two separate shooting incidents investigated by local and state authorities.

The Lovejoy Police Department said officers were first called to the 2500 block of Lovejoy Crossing Lane on Jan. 17 following reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found a juvenile victim seated in the front passenger seat of a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds to the face and neck.

Investigators said the suspect allegedly fired into the vehicle, striking the victim, before fleeing the scene. The injured juvenile was transported for medical treatment. Police did not release details on the victim’s condition.

Following an investigation, authorities identified Stephens as the alleged shooter and obtained arrest warrants charging him with aggravated assault.

Law enforcement officials said the case expanded after information surfaced linking Stephens to another shooting.

According to authorities, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation also secured warrants for Stephens related to a separate shooting incident.

Details surrounding the second shooting were not immediately released, but officials confirmed it was under active investigation.

As the search intensified, the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office said it launched a coordinated operation involving multiple law enforcement agencies.

Deputies and officers executed operations at several residences connected to Stephens’ relatives and known associates as they worked to locate the teen.

“Law enforcement made it clear that Stephens had no place to hide and would receive no assistance,” the sheriff’s department said in a statement.

Authorities said Stephens remained at large for more than 48 hours as law enforcement agencies worked together to track him down. Ultimately, investigators said his father made the decision to turn him in.

After more than two days on the run, Stephens was surrendered to police by his father, authorities confirmed. He was taken into custody without incident and booked on the outstanding warrants.

Officials have not released information about whether additional charges could be filed or whether other individuals may be connected to either shooting. The investigation into both incidents remains ongoing.

Law enforcement officials praised the cooperation between agencies and reiterated their message that violent offenders will be pursued and held accountable.

Stephens is expected to remain in custody as the legal process moves forward.
