Vice President JD Vance said American families were forced to make difficult financial decisions under the Biden-Harris administration and argued that recent economic policies under President Donald Trump have taken a different direction aimed at restoring prosperity, safety, and opportunity.
Vance made the remarks while addressing what he described as the daily economic pressures facing working families, focusing on wages, prices, household expenses, and long-term opportunity for the next generation.
He said families across the country struggled to afford basic necessities and were often forced to give up essentials during the prior administration.

“These are the decisions that way too many families had to take under the Biden administration and under the Trump administration,” Vance said.
“We want better for you, and we’re fighting better for you every single day.”
Vance said the goal of current economic policy is to allow Americans not only to cover necessities, but to enjoy the benefits of their work.
“We want you to have enough prosperity to Yes, buy the things that you need to. Yes, buy those medications and put food on the table, but maybe to take a little vacation, because if you work hard every single day, you ought to be able to enjoy the fruits of your label labor,” he said.

He said that prosperity should extend beyond basic survival and allow families to create opportunities for their children.
“Maybe you want to buy something extra for your kids,” Vance said.
“Maybe you want to do something that you couldn’t do when you were a kid, because that is the promise of the American Dream that we leave the next generation a little bit better off than the generation that came before.”
Vance contrasted current economic conditions with those he attributed to the Biden-Harris administration, saying families faced lower earnings and rising costs.
“What we had under the Biden Harris administration is lower price, excuse me, lower wages,” he said.
“We had higher prices. We had more people struggling to get by, and more people who gave up on the essentials instead of buying the things that they needed to buy.”
He said the approach under President Trump represents a shift in priorities, pointing to changes in wealth, public safety, and immigration enforcement.
“What we have under the Trump administration is a totally different approach,” Vance said, adding that recent policies “has made you wealthier, has made your communities safer, has gotten those illegal aliens out of the United States of America, and is trying to rebuild that all important American dream.”
Vance framed the moment as a choice between continuing current policies or returning to those of the previous administration.
“So I have a very simple question, do we one year into this great American Recovery? Do we want to go back to the failed policies of the Biden Harris administration?” he asked.
“No, we don’t.”
He said the administration intends to continue focusing on economic growth and workers.
“So let’s keep doubling down on American prosperity,” Vance said.
“Let’s keep doubling down on the American worker.”
Vance also criticized Democratic lawmakers, including Rep. Marcy Kaptur, saying the administration rejects a return to earlier policies.
“And let’s tell Marcy Kaptur and the rest of the crazy congressional Democrats that we are not going back,” he said.
“We are going forward to a brighter future for every single one of our citizens.”
