Former U.S. Rep. Jamaal Bowman issued a profanity-laced call for unrest following the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Alex Pretti during a federal immigration enforcement operation in Minnesota, urging supporters to “shut this s**t down” and demanding the dismantling of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Bowman, who lost his Democratic primary in 2024 and is no longer serving in Congress, made the remarks in a video recorded from his car and circulated online in the aftermath of Pretti’s death.
The shooting occurred during an anti-ICE confrontation involving U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents.

According to accounts of the incident, Pretti inserted himself into an active federal immigration operation and attempted to prevent CBP agents from arresting another individual.
Video from the scene shows Pretti engaging with agents as they carried out the operation. A physical struggle followed.
Pretti, who was licensed to carry a 9mm firearm, reached toward his waistband during the confrontation.
Moments later, CBP agents opened fire.

Pretti was pronounced dead at the scene.
Despite the circumstances surrounding the shooting, Democrats and far-left activists quickly accused CBP agents of “murder” and escalated calls for political retaliation.
Bowman joined those voices with an aggressive statement calling for mass action against federal authorities and the Trump administration.
“It’s time to shut this s**t down, yo. It’s time to shut it down. This entire system,” Bowman said in the video.
Bowman referenced another fatal encounter involving federal immigration enforcement earlier this year and framed both deaths as acts of systemic violence.
“First Renee Good, now Alex Pretti. Rest in peace to both of them. State-sanctioned lynching and murder is happening under this administration,” Bowman said.
“We need governors, mayors, every elected official to step up and do what’s necessary to shut ICE down.”
He went further, explicitly calling for the abolition and defunding of ICE and urging action against President Donald Trump.
“Abolish them, defund them, whatever the fk need to be done, they gotta go. Impeach Trump,” Bowman said.
“B*tch-ass Republicans, yo. The f**k are y’all doing over there? Y’all support fascism and this bulsh*t? Yo, we better not ever vote for any of these clowns ever again.”
Bowman also voiced support for efforts by congressional Democrats to force a government shutdown, an action Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York has vowed to pursue later this week.
“And Democrats, use any means necessary to shut it down. Schumer, Jeffries, whoever,” Bowman said.
“The people gotta keep rising up. We are all Minnesota, yo. We are all Minnesota.”
The former congressman closed his remarks with broader claims about systemic oppression in the United States.
“This sh*t is crazy. The system is designed to kill poor, black, brown people. And it’s doing it right in front of our faces, and it’s been doing it throughout history,” Bowman said.
“We need a new America. Enough is a f**king enough, yo! Jesus!”
WATCH:
Bowman’s comments came as tensions remained high in Minnesota following Pretti’s death, with protests and demonstrations targeting federal immigration authorities.
This is who they are protecting:
Federal officials have defended the actions of CBP agents involved in the shooting, citing officer safety during a volatile confrontation.
The incident and Bowman’s response have added to an already heated national debate over immigration enforcement, political rhetoric, and calls for unrest directed at federal law enforcement agencies.
