SWAT, Robots, Drones Deployed in Rancho Cordova House Where 4 Were Killed [WATCH]

Law enforcement deployed robots, drones, and a SWAT response on Tuesday after four people were found shot to death inside a Rancho Cordova home east of Sacramento, following a 911 call in which the suspected shooter claimed he had planted booby traps inside the residence, as reported by The New York Post.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department said deputies responded to reports of gunfire at a home on the 5400 block of Mill Water Circle after the suspect himself called 911 at approximately 8:35 a.m.

According to authorities, the caller admitted to the shootings and warned dispatchers that the house contained explosives.

Based on the threat, along with information indicating the suspect had a military background, deputies arrived with a heavily equipped response that included a SWAT team, a Special Enforcement Detail unit, drones, and a robot designed to detect potential explosives.

“They told the occupants to [surrender],” a Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson said. “But no one responded.”

Due to the claim of booby traps and concerns for officer safety, tactical teams did not immediately enter the home.

Instead, a robot was first deployed to scan the entryway and interior for possible explosive devices. Deputies later breached a back fence and broke a side sliding glass door, allowing a drone to be flown into the residence.

The aerial footage located an unresponsive adult male inside the home. Only after deputies confirmed through the drone that the suspect was down did officers make physical entry into the house.

Inside, deputies discovered four victims: an adult man, an adult woman, and two juveniles — one boy and one girl. All four were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities later said they believe the incident was a murder-suicide.

Late Tuesday, law enforcement officials stated there was no record of prior domestic violence calls associated with the residence.

A neighbor who has lived on the 5400 block of Mill Water Circle since 2013 told The Post that he frequently heard the male suspect yelling at his family.

“I walk my dog down that court, and one time I heard him yell at the wife, ‘I’m going to F you up.’

I heard her say, ‘I’m sorry, I’m sorry,’ but I just didn’t want to get involved, because the dude was kind of unhinged,” the neighbor said.

The neighbor described the man as an introvert and speculated that he may have suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder. “He had a very deep, loud voice to the point where the neighbors would hear him screaming,” he said.

According to the neighbor, the area is popular among veterans, with nearly half a dozen former service members living within a two-block radius of the home.

Authorities have not released the names of the victims or the suspect, pending notification of relatives.

The investigation remains ongoing as detectives work to reconstruct the events leading up to the shootings and assess whether any explosive devices were present in the residence.
