Political commentator Jesse Kelly and researcher Mike Benz alleged that senior Democratic Party figures planned in advance to provoke a crisis on January 6, 2021, as part of a broader strategy to counter a potential clear victory by President Donald Trump in the 2020 election.
The claims were made during an exchange between Kelly and Benz, in which they discussed the motivations behind Democratic leaders’ response to January 6 and the political fallout that followed.
“Obviously they don’t think it was an insurrection, and I believe, as I think you do, that they were heavily involved in that day,” Kelly said.
“So why’d they go so all in?”

Benz responded by asserting that Democratic Party leadership had prepared for such a scenario months earlier.
“Well, they had to,” Benz said.
“I’ve covered this in detail in June 2020, all the major DNC apparatchiks, including Donna Brazile, the former head of the DNC, and John Podesta, Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager, who was then promoted to a $375 billion slush fund to run inside the Biden White House, planned a simulation about how to overturn the election results if Trump won, and quote, a clear Trump win.”

According to Benz, that planning allegedly included discussion of January 6 as a pivotal moment.
“And as part of that plan, they planned to think the exact phrase was, provoke a breakdown on January 6 to disrupt the proceedings, to prevent the vote from going through the addendum to that war game exercise,” Benz said.
Benz said the alleged simulation focused not only on election certification but also on weakening Trump’s political support.
“It was called, will Trumpism survive Trump, even if he loses?” Benz said.
“Clearly laid out a necessity to create a predicate to go after Trump’s entire base, to quote, demobilize them that they won’t automatically demobilize on their own, and so some legal predicate is necessary to go after the entire base.”
He further claimed that infrastructure and coordination were already in place before January 6.
“And I believe they already had the instruments in place in the event that Trump had won the election,” Benz said.
Benz said that as Trump pursued legal challenges to the election results, Democrats allegedly moved forward with the strategy.
“And then when it looked like Trump was contesting things in court, and it looked like the country was not buying what was happening with these magic mail in ballots,” Benz said,
“they said, Well, we already have the assets in place.”
He claimed those assets included military positioning and communication channels with senior officials.
“We already have the military assets going to the Penn walkway entrance,” Benz said.
“We already have the back channels with Nancy Pelosi and Mark Milley, so we can use this to take down Trump.”
Benz concluded by asserting that the events of January 6 aligned with the scenario he described.
“I believe that’s what’s happened,” he said.
