Kaif Gilani, the cofounder of the viral “Hot Girls for Zohran” campaign that helped propel Zohran Mamdani to New York City’s mayoralty, spent years posting anti-cop screeds and racial jokes targeting white people on his X account.

Gilani, who posts under the handle @chunkyfila, came under scrutiny Wednesday after Jewish Insider reported on pro-Hamas content littering his feed. But a Daily Caller review of his account reveals a pattern of inflammatory rhetoric that went far beyond Middle Eastern politics. In May 2020, Gilani bragged about an encounter during his high school track and field days: “i remember when i used to run track one time a cop pulled up by the school and i said ‘fuck cops’ and one dude on my team said hey my dad’s a cop so i said fuck your dad too.”

The post racked up over 300 likes.

Weeks later, amid the George Floyd riots, Gilani offered his prediction for the future: “in 200 years white supremacist kids will be like ‘we are the sons of the cops you couldnt defund.’” He followed up by promoting the Minneapolis Police Department abolition movement and linking to resources on “living [in] a society without the current police.”

In September 2020, Gilani weighed in on the trailer for Netflix’s “Emily in Paris,” complaining about a lack of minority representation — then bizarrely singling out Ashley Park’s character Mindy Chen for dismissal. “i bet not one poc got a speaking role in this movie. and before you say her asian best friend in the trailer, she doesn’t count, that girl def says the n word,” he wrote.

What prompted the accusation remains unclear.

On Thanksgiving 2020, Gilani took aim at his own girlfriend: “my white gf came over to my family’s house knowing she tested covid positive, continuing her family’s tradition of killing indians on the holiday.” The tweet earned over 3,000 likes.

In January 2021, responding to the Capitol riot, Gilani wrote that police “should never be able to publicly execute someone” while dismissing those who invoked the phrase “say her name” for Ashli Babbitt, the Trump supporter shot by Capitol Police.

obviously fuck the police and cops should never be able to publicly execute someone. you should also, however, not be coopting “say her name”, & definitely not when you’re using it to justify a cue uh non white supremacist’s idiotic actions

Gilani also appointed himself the arbiter of racial authenticity. In December 2019, he lectured another user: “your mother being blasian doesn’t mean you know what it’s like to live as a black person in this day and age. your experiences are not comparable and you have no right to use that word.” The post he was replying to has been deleted, though context suggests Gilani was gatekeeping use of the n-word.

Gilani co-created “Hot Girls for Zohran” in early 2025 alongside Cait Camelia. The grassroots merchandising and canvassing operation became a social media sensation, with celebrities like Emily Ratajkowski donning the group’s T-shirts. The campaign is credited with mobilizing young voters who helped Mamdani defeat former Gov. Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary and win the general election.

Following Mamdani’s victory, Gilani parlayed his political connections into a $15,000 consulting contract with former New York City Comptroller Brad Lander’s congressional campaign — the largest single disbursement in Lander’s first FEC filing. The Lander campaign told Jewish Insider it terminated Gilani’s contract upon learning of his posts.

Gilani also serves as vice president of the enterprise data office at Citibank, according to his LinkedIn profile. The bank told Jewish Insider it is “investigating the matter.”

In a statement to Jewish Insider, Gilani did not address his anti-cop or racially charged posts, instead framing the scrutiny as an attack on his Muslim faith.

“I’m grateful for my many Jewish friends who share my opinions. Free Palestine,” he wrote.

Gilani did not immediately respond to the Caller’s request for comment.
