Texas Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett lost her party’s primary race for the U.S. Senate on Tuesday night, with fellow Democrat James Talarico emerging as the projected winner after most votes were counted, as reported by The Gateway Pundit.

The closely watched contest ended with Talarico holding a lead once the bulk of ballots were tallied.

As of 7:30 a.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday, projections showed Talarico with about 52 percent of the vote after roughly 90 percent of the expected ballots had been counted.

That margin placed him several points ahead of Crockett, a progressive Democrat who had entered the race as a high-profile candidate in the primary.

Crockett acknowledged the likelihood of defeat late Tuesday night but suggested during remarks to supporters that the race had been affected by irregularities.

Speaking during a press conference that also included House candidate Collin Allred, Crockett urged supporters to stay engaged and continue participating in elections.

“We encourage each and every one of you to remain resilient. We cannot allow this type of behavior to be rewarded because so long as they know that they can win, even if it means cheating, then they will continue to do it,” Crockett told supporters.

She continued by encouraging voters to remain involved in the political process and to ensure they participate in future elections.

“So, I am asking you, I am begging you, to make sure that you go ahead and figure out where it is that you are supposed to vote, stand in line, wait in line.”

Crockett also called for broader political unity in addressing concerns surrounding elections.

“We should all be standing together, Democrats, Republicans, and we should all be raising hell,” she said.

During her remarks, Crockett suggested that some voters had difficulty locating their assigned voting precincts.

She attributed the issue to actions she blamed on Republicans, arguing that confusion surrounding polling locations affected turnout among her supporters.

The race drew attention in Texas political circles due to Crockett’s national profile and outspoken style, which had made her a prominent progressive voice in Congress.

Her loss in the Democratic primary represents a notable development in the state’s Senate race as Democrats prepare for the general election.

Talarico, a Texas state representative who previously served as a public school teacher, secured the nomination after gaining the support needed to move ahead of Crockett once vote totals were reported across the state.

Meanwhile, the Republican side of the Texas Senate race is headed for a runoff election. Neither candidate in the GOP primary secured the majority threshold required to win outright.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, widely identified with the MAGA wing of the Republican Party, will face incumbent Senator John Cornyn in the runoff after both candidates fell short of the required 50 percent plus one vote needed to claim the nomination.

The runoff will determine which Republican advances to the general election for the Senate seat.

Paxton and Cornyn represent different factions within the Republican Party, making the upcoming contest a closely watched battle among Texas conservatives.

With the Democratic primary settled and the Republican contest moving to a runoff, attention now shifts to the next stage of the Texas Senate race as candidates prepare for the campaigns ahead.

Texas remains one of the nation’s largest and most politically significant states, and the outcome of the Senate contest is expected to draw national attention as the election cycle continues.
