Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, has conceded defeat in the Democratic primary for the U.S. Senate after losing to state Rep. James Talarico in a race that quickly sparked widespread reaction online, as reported by Fox News.

Crockett, a second-term member of Congress who had been viewed as one of the rising progressive voices in the Democratic Party, acknowledged the outcome in a social media post Wednesday morning following an election night in which she initially lashed out at Republicans after falling short in the contest.

According to Crockett, she contacted her opponent shortly after the results became clear.

Here’s What They’re Not Telling You About Your Retirement

She wrote that she called Talarico on Wednesday morning and “congratulated him on becoming the Senate nominee.”

In her message, Crockett urged Democrats to unite behind the party’s candidates moving forward, arguing that the upcoming general election remains important for the party’s prospects in Texas.

Crockett said the state is “primed to turn blue” and added, “We must remain united because this is bigger than any one person.”

“This is about the future of all 30 million Texans and getting America back on track,” she said.

She also stated, “With the primary behind us, Democrats must rally around our nominees and win. I’m committed to doing my part and will continue working to elect Democrats up and down the ballot.”

The defeat carries additional consequences for Crockett’s political career because she declined to seek reelection to her current seat in the U.S. House of Representatives while pursuing the Senate bid.

As a result, her congressional term is set to conclude in January.

Online reaction followed quickly after the race was called.

Memes featuring Crockett with the caption “STRAIGHT OUTTA CONGRESS” began circulating widely on X as commentators and social media users weighed in on the outcome.

Independent conservative journalist Nick Sortor posted on social media:

“BREAKING: Jasmine Crockett has LOST the Democratic Primary for US Senate in TX, putting an END to her career in Congress. Jasmine had to decline reelection for her present seat in the US House in order to run for Senate, so she’ll be OUT after this year. Bye!”

Conservative influencer David Freeman, who posts under the account name “Gunther Eagleman,” also commented on the result.

He wrote, “Dear Jasmine Crockett, Waffle House in Dallas is hiring. Sincerely, America.”

Conservative commentator Eric Daugherty also weighed in on the race, writing that Crockett “STORMS OUT of her own event after crying ‘they cheated!’ following her brutal loss. She said REPUBLICANS rigged the election in areas with high black populations.”

Throughout the campaign, Crockett frequently accused critics of opposing her candidacy for racial reasons.

In January, following remarks by podcasters and comedians Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang, who told listeners not to “waste” their money supporting her campaign, Crockett responded publicly.

She said, “I really do think that the host said the quiet part out loud, which basically was: If a White man couldn’t do it, then why would a Black woman even have the audacity to think that she could?”

Crockett also criticized certain campaign advertisements targeting her, saying, “I see when they’re sending out ads, and they’re darkening my skin. And I’m just like, I know what this is, right?”

Her Senate campaign also drew attention when her announcement video featured a simple shot of the congresswoman while audio of President Donald Trump calling her a “low IQ” person played in the background.

Commentator Savanah Hernandez referenced the advertisement in a post online, writing, “As we say goodbye to Jasmine Crockett, never forget the campaign ad she released where Trump just calls her a ‘low IQ person’ for 30 seconds straight. A true piece of art that will never be forgotten.”

Others also reacted to the results. Author Al Robinson posted a response addressing the broader political messaging of Crockett’s campaign.

He wrote, “When your campaign message is built on hatred… division… and mocking entire groups of people… eventually voters get tired of it.”

Robinson continued, “Rep. Jasmine Crockett tried to build a brand on insults… calling people ‘white tears,’ throwing around Nazi comparisons, and making politics nothing more than a circus of outrage. But here is the uncomfortable reality. Leadership requires stability. Leadership requires responsibility. Leadership requires building something… not just tearing people down.”

He concluded, “When your entire political strategy is built on insults instead of solutions… the result is predictable. You lose.”

The Texas Senate race is expected to remain closely watched ahead of the November general election. The outcome could play a significant role in determining which party controls the Senate.

On the Republican side, long-time incumbent Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, is currently heading into a runoff election with Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

Crockett and Talarico did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
