M.I.A. Dropped From Kid Cudi Tour After Onstage Comments About Being “Canceled” [WATCH]

Rapper M.I.A., whose real name is Mathangi Arulpragasam, was removed from Kid Cudi’s tour after making remarks on stage about being canceled for her political beliefs, as reported by The Gateway Pundit.

The event unfolded at the Dos Equis Pavilion, where she served as the opening act for Kid Cudi.

Videos from the performance showed M.I.A. telling the crowd, “I’ve been canceled for many reasons. I never thought I would be canceled for being a brown Republican voter.”

She then introduced her song “Illegal” by saying, “Can’t do ‘Illegal’ ’cause some of you could be in the audience.”

When audience members began to boo, M.I.A. replied, “All right, I’m illegal. Half of my team are not here because they didn’t get the visa, OK? I want you to know that. All right? So don’t listen to what the bots say on the internet, OK?”

Two days later, Kid Cudi announced through Instagram that M.I.A. was no longer part of his tour.

In a message to his 3.3 million followers, Cudi wrote, “M.I.A. is no longer on this tour. I told my management to send a notice to her team before we started tour that I didn’t want anything offensive at my shows, cuz I already knew what time it was, and I was assured things were understood.”

He continued, “After the last couple shows, I’ve been flooded with messages from fans that were upset by her rants. This, to me, is very disappointing and I wont have someone on my tour making offensive remarks that upset my fanbase. Thank you for understanding.”

M.I.A. has been widely recognized for expressing strong political opinions and has defended figures such as WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

Following her removal from the tour, she posted a message on X that appeared to address the situation.

She wrote, “DON’T BE AN AGENT OF DIVISION, I CAN’T VOTE IN THE US, AND 48% OF LATIN COMMUNITY VOTED TRUMP. SO ARE YOU GOING TO HATE THEM ALL?”

Her post continued, “WE MUST UNITE TO MAKE THIS COUNTRY, THAT EVERYONE WANTS TO LIVE IN A BETTER PLACE. IF YOU ARE EASYLY LED BY RUMOUR THEN YOU DON’T SEE THE LIGHT FOR YOURSELF. I PRAY FOR YOUR AWAKENING.”

M.I.A. also replied to a user who shared video from the show by referencing her earlier work.

“I WROTE BORDERS AND ILLYGAL AND PAPER PLANES BEFORE YOU THOUGHT IMMIGRANT RIGHTS WERE COOL. I’VE HAD THSES BATTLES BY MYSELF WITHOUT THE HELP OF MILLIONS OF FANS BACKING ME,” she said.

She added, “I DON’T NEED THIS VIRTUE SIGNAL ERA TO ALL OF A SUDDEN ERASE AN ENTIRE LIFE I’VE LED. JESUS WAS AN IMMIGRANT AND A REBEL. I HAVE NO APPOLGY FOR THE JUDGEMENTAL THE WICKED AND THE IGNORENT, FOR THOSE ARE SPIRITS THAT WE MUST OVER COME IN OUR LIVES AND IN THIS WORLD.”
