What the Hell Is Wrong With Charlotte?

What the hell, North Carolina? Your state is electing liberals, and one of your major, and quite beautiful cities is becoming a haven for criminals. 

You can’t even ride a bus or train without getting stabbed, slashed, or beaten into quadriplegia. 

Seriously. 

This seems like a good time to remind everyone that 1 year ago, on a Charlotte NC city bus…

…a White 64-year-old Navy Veteran was beaten and paralyzed by a Black man who broke his neck

The veteran is a quadriplegic now.

Charlotte’s crime problem was famously put on the map because of the vicious murder of Iryna Zarutska—you know, the Ukrainian refugee whom the Democrats refused to mourn for at the State of the Union—but apparently the entire criminal justice system in Charlotte is hopelessly broken or corrupt. 

I still can’t get over the fact that all five of these people watched Iryna Zarutska get murdered and then just sat there or walked away while she bled out.

Despite the rampant random violent crime, the city just elected a judge whose main priority is decarceration.

Cannon calls herself an “abolitionist” who will “get you out of that cage.” She was also ARRESTED 3 TIMES during the George Floyd riots.

She’s now a JUDGE

This, in a state that has honored George Floyd as the ultimate victim of the system, while releasing felons into the community to terrorize citizens.

North Carolinians, one would expect, would have a lot more common sense than that, but as urban areas turn bluer, tolerance of crime and sympathy for criminals necessarily follow. 

 

As is so often the case, the power structure in Charlotte is dominated by people in what we call the “service” industry, which these days doesn’t mean food service, but rather high-income finance, legal, healthcare, and academia. Throw in government workers and you have a ready-made group of people who think Chesa Boudin was too hard on criminals.

For all I know, the wealthier professional classes are entirely insulated from the crime, and hence view it as an abstract problem that only impacts the hoi polloi.

Charlotte has been growing incredibly fast over the past few decades, but as the results show, getting wealthier and becoming better governed are hardly the same thing.

Roy Cooper, the current Governor of North Carolina, refuses to cooperate with ICE as illegal aliens are rampaging throughout his state. Nobody is asking him to go out and arrest them—just hand the criminals over when they are put into state or local custody. 

He says no.

Mecklenburg County, NC: On Monday, Geovani Aaron Amezquita-Vaca was arrested for Indecent Exposure and multiple counts of Indecent Liberties with a Child.

He has an immigration detainer hold.

This is not the first time he has been arrested in NC and appears to have had previous Federal immigration-related charges.

November 2018 in CA: Misuse of Entry Document (Accused of using fraudulent Border Crossing Card) – Dismissed w/o Prejudice

January 2021 in NC: Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Dismissed w/o Leave

April 2022 in NC: Indecent Exposure – Guilty – 45 days Confinement and 12 months Probation

January 2024 in NC: Indecent Exposure – Pending

July 2025 in NC: Indecent Liberties with a Child x3 – Pending

Ah, yes, the Child Predator Protection Act of 2026 should be put forward by Cooper, so he can join Spanberger at the top of the list of criminal alien protectors.

When I was in graduate school, I lived in Durham, and while I was not a fan of the weather, I never thought the state would be run by insane people, nor did I expect Charlotte to become filled with entitled radicals who would turn the city over to predators. 

Once again, I underestimated the depravity of the left.
