A group of teenagers is being sought by police after a violent confrontation erupted inside a Bronx supermarket, leaving a cashier shaken and customers scrambling for safety, as reported by The New York Post.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday inside the Allerton Key Food supermarket on White Plains Road, according to the store’s owner and surveillance footage reviewed after the incident.

Store owner Miguel Garcia said the group entered the business and quickly began causing disturbances, ultimately leading to a physical confrontation involving employees and a security guard.

“This is a supermarket. You come here to shop, and you leave. I’m not supposed to have a customer covering her baby’s eyes,” Garcia told The Post.

According to Garcia, the confrontation involved five teenagers — four girls and one boy. He said the boy had been inside the store roughly 15 minutes earlier with another group before leaving.

Garcia said the earlier encounter began when a shopper confronted the boy after he allegedly struck the customer twice. The shopper told the teen to “have some manners,” Garcia said, prompting the boy to leave the store.

Surveillance video later captured the group returning and entering the supermarket together. Garcia said the teens appeared to be looking for the earlier customer before turning their attention toward the store’s security guard.

Footage shows one of the teens approaching the guard and demanding information about the earlier incident.

“The security guard told them, ‘I don’t know what you are talking about.’ One girl, without warning, went chest to chest with the security and hit him in the face,” Garcia said.

The altercation escalated moments later when the store’s head cashier, a 23-year-old college student, stepped in to intervene.

Garcia said the employee simply told the teens they could not strike the security guard.

“The head cashier told the teen, ‘You can’t do that.’ That’s all it took for the rest of the group to jump her. They started punching her and pulling out her hair. They broke her glasses,” Garcia said.

Surveillance footage shows the group attacking the cashier, forcing her to the ground as she tried to defend herself. Garcia said the security guard attempted to break up the fight, placing himself between the teens and the employee.

Despite the guard’s efforts, the group continued striking the cashier during the melee.

Others inside the supermarket intervened and put a stop to the fight.

Customers inside the supermarket quickly moved away from the scene. One mother was seen covering her toddler’s eyes while leaving the store.

Eventually, bystanders intervened and forced the group of teenagers out of the supermarket. The suspects then fled the area before police arrived.

“When they came back, they came to fight. There was no reason for this,” Garcia said.

Police and emergency medical responders later arrived at the scene, but the suspects had already left.

Sources told The Post that the New York Police Department is currently searching for four suspects in connection with the incident.

The cashier who was attacked has worked at the supermarket for five years. Garcia said she has taken time off from work after the assault.

“She’s still in shock. She’s still shaky. She’s scared,” Garcia said.

Another employee who hid during the altercation resigned after the incident, Garcia said.

“She said she can’t work here anymore.”

Garcia said the store and other nearby businesses have experienced similar incidents involving groups of teenagers in the past.

“We are supposed to be essential workers. These people were here during COVID, serving the community. People had to eat, and this is what we get?” Garcia said.

“I’m hoping something can be done because they’ll come back and do it again.”

Francisco Marte, founder and president of Bodega & Small Group, also spoke out following the attack and urged police to identify those responsible.

“It is incredibly frustrating — and frankly, exhausting — to see innocent people targeted for something they didn’t even do,” Marte said.

“We want there to be consequences for the perpetrators.”

Authorities have not announced any arrests as the investigation continues.
