Instead, the biggest storyline this week is the one that landed before anyone hit the first tee shot: Scottie Scheffler is out, and the entire tournament board just got flipped.

Scheffler withdrew Tuesday morning after entering the week as the heavy betting favorite at +350 on FanDuel. The reason is not an injury. Scheffler and his wife, Meredith, are expecting their second child, and he opted to be home for it.

That decision removes the tournament’s most reliable safety blanket. Scheffler has been a fixture at Memorial Park and has finished runner up three times, including each of the last two years.
