Political commentator Scott Jennings raised concerns about allegations against Florida Democratic Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus McCormick, who has been indicted in connection with an alleged scheme involving $5 million in FEMA disaster relief funds.

“By the way, have you heard the one about the sitting Florida Congresswoman who stole millions of dollars in FEMA disaster relief funds and then used the money on her campaign for Congress?” Jennings said.

He questioned the level of public attention surrounding the case, adding, “No, you haven’t heard this story? Well, I wonder why that might be.”

Here’s What They’re Not Telling You About Your Retirement

Jennings continued, “Because I’ll tell you why the congresswoman in question is a Democrat, and that tells you everything you need to know about the state of the American media.”

He described the allegations as significant, stating, “Now this is not some minor ethics flap.”

Jennings emphasized the seriousness of the case, saying, “This is not a paperwork error. This is not a technicality here, folks.”

He added, “This is one of the most serious corruption cases involving a sitting member of Congress to come along in years.”

Jennings identified the lawmaker involved, stating, “The Congresswoman in question is named Sheila sherfilis McCormick.”

He noted her political affiliation and district, saying, “She is a Democrat from Florida.”

Jennings added, “She represents parts of Broward and Palm Beach counties.”

He outlined the allegations described in the indictment, stating, “A grand jury indicted her for allegedly stealing $5 million in FEMA disaster relief funds.”

Jennings said the funds were intended for public assistance, adding, “Money that was supposed to go to help Americans during covid.”

He described how prosecutors allege the funds were handled, saying, “According to prosecutors, that money didn’t just disappear.”

Jennings continued, “It was laundered, funneled through a family business.”

He added, “Then prosecutors Say she used the money to fund her own campaign for Congress.”

Jennings returned to his criticism of media coverage, asking, “Now, why haven’t you heard about this again?”

He answered, “Ah, yes. Forgot. This is a Democrat we’re talking about who took disaster relief money and turned it into campaign cash.”

He said the charges extend beyond a single allegation, stating, “Now the charges don’t stop there.”

Jennings added, “We’re talking about conspiracy here, money laundering, illegal campaign contributions.”

He continued, “Even allegations of falsifying tax documents.”

He noted the potential legal consequences, stating, “If convicted in federal court, she could face decades in prison.”

Jennings said a federal trial is scheduled, stating, “So her federal trial is scheduled for next month.”

He also referenced proceedings on Capitol Hill, saying, “But these issues are going to be dealt with today on Capitol Hill in a rare public ethics trial over in the US House.”

Jennings emphasized the rarity of the process, stating, “And when I say rare, I mean rare.”

He said the House Ethics Committee established a special panel, stating, “The House Ethics Committee almost never does this.”

Jennings added, “They had to create a special adjudicatory panel.”

He said investigators cited evidence in the case, stating, “Because investigators found what they called, quote, substantial evidence of her misconduct.”

Jennings described the scope of the review, saying, “The committee reviewed 10s of 1000s of documents.”

He added, “Interviewed dozens of witnesses.”

Jennings said the findings extended beyond the indictment, stating, “And said the evidence lines up not just with the indictment.”

He added, “But potentially even broader misconduct.”

Jennings said the case raises questions about political accountability, asking, “So let me ask the obvious question, where is the Democratic Party?”

He continued, “Where is the outrage? Where is the moral clarity?”

Jennings contrasted the situation with other cases, stating, “Because when Republicans have even a whiff of scandal, what do we hear?”

He answered, “Resign, step down. Zero Tolerance.”

He referenced recent reactions to another controversy, stating, “My goodness, gracious. Democrats just the other day, were going crazy about Pete hegseth supposedly buying millions of dollars in lobster.”

Jennings added, “But they have nothing for this.”

He pointed to a past case involving a Republican lawmaker, asking, “Do you remember the name George Santos?”

Jennings said, “He was the Republican congressman from New York campaign fraud indictment and later a conviction.”

He added, “And it was Republicans who cleaned up their own house and expelled him from the body.”

Jennings said he has not seen similar responses in this case, stating, “But here with Democrat McCormick, what do we hear from Democratic leaders?”

He answered, “Well, we hear nothing. It’s total silence.”

Jennings also criticized media coverage, stating, “What do we hear from cable news? Nothing, a blackout on this story, it seems.”

He said the situation reflects broader concerns, stating, “And that is the real story today, not just the alleged corruption.”

Jennings added, “But the complete lack of accountability from the political system that surrounds it.”

He said the case could have broader implications, stating, “Because this isn’t just about a congresswoman who is corrupt.”

Jennings added, “It is about a culture where if you’re on the right team and if you vote the right way, well, things tend to just get ignored and overlooked.”

He continued, “At least as a matter of public accountability.”

Jennings said the allegations, if proven, would represent a significant abuse of public funds, stating, “If these allegations are true, and it certainly seems like the Ethics Committee believes they are.”

He added, “This is one of the most brazen abuses of taxpayer money in recent memory.”

Jennings described the alleged conduct, stating, “Stealing from a disaster relief program during a national emergency.”

He added, “And using it to climb the ladder of political power.”

Jennings questioned whether further scrutiny would follow, asking, “After this ethics trial, will there be any public exploration of exactly what happened here?”

He compared coverage to other political stories, stating, “We get breathless coverage of everything Trump or any Republican does, real or imagined.”

Jennings added, “But a Democrat stealing $5 million well, we’ve gotten nothing so far.”

He concluded by expressing uncertainty about the outcome, stating, “But maybe hopefully that will change after the ethics committee does its job today.”

Jennings added, “And we’ll see what happens to Representative McCormick of Florida.”

“But as they say, it don’t look good.”
