Republican Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna said Saturday she will file a motion to expel Democratic California Rep. Eric Swalwell from Congress, after multiple women had accused him of sexual assault and misconduct.

Swalwell, as of Saturday evening, remains a candidate for California governor despite multiple members of his own party withdrawing their support of his campaign and calling for him to drop out of the race. During an episode of “Saturday in America,” Luna told Fox News’s Kayleigh McEnany it is “unacceptable” for the California Democrat to remain in Congress, even if he drops out of the gubernatorial race.

“I will be filing a motion to expel Eric Swalwell. It is unacceptable for him to just index his campaign for governor in California but still sit in the House of Representatives. Meanwhile, he was allegedly harassing and potentially raping his own staff,” Luna told McEnany.

The host had pointed to a late Friday statement from House Democratic leadership, including Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, calling “for a swift investigation into these incidents and for [Swalwell] to immediately end his campaign to be California’s next Governor [sic].” The statement notably stopped short of calling for Swalwell to resign his House seat.

“So, they want him to end his campaign for governor, but yet he should remain in Congress over which they have jurisdiction to call for action?” McEnany asked Luna, apparently holding up a paper copy of the Democratic statement.

“Yeah, it’s completely inappropriate,” the Florida Republican answered.

As of early Saturday evening, only two of Swalwell’s 42 fellow California House Democrats have said he should resign from the House: Reps. Sam Liccardo and Mike Levin. The Daily Caller News Foundation asked the other 40 Democrats if they believe Swalwell should resign but none answered the question.

Swalwell is not seeking reelection to his Bay-area seat in November, a decision he made in order to seek the governorship. He has maintained his innocence and forcefully denied the allegations, which include having two sexual encounters with a staffer when she was too intoxicated to give consent.

Luna also told McEnany she thinks filing her motion will rightly set off a domino effect and prompt a motion to expel Republican Texas Rep. Tony Gonzales. The 45-year-old lawmaker admitted to having an extramarital affair with his married aide, who died by suicide in September 2025 after she set herself on fire. Gonzales ended his reelection bid in March shortly after being forced into a May runoff election.

“And ultimately, at the end of the day, this is about accountability for the American people. This should not be happening in the House of Representatives. It is unacceptable, and, frankly, I don’t think that they deserve taxpayer dollar paychecks while they’re going through all this,” Luna told the Fox News host.

The congresswoman then reiterated the intended premise of her motion in a video she posted to X Saturday afternoon.

“So, on Friday, I had my staff initiate the process … to file motions for expulsions for multiple members of Congress, both Democrat and Republican,” Luna said in the video. “And I think even though Democrats and Republicans might have ideological differences, I think we should be able to all agree on the basics, that maybe, if you’re, I don’t know, sexually harassing or assaulting or have issues of domestic violence, or you’re stealing funds from FEMA [Federal Emergency Management Agency], maybe you should not be in Congress, right?”

Federal prosecutors in November 2025 charged Democratic Florida Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick with stealing $5 million in FEMA funds. The congresswoman in March was found guilty of violating 25 House rules by a House Ethics panel and faces expulsion threats.

“Like, maybe it’s time for you to go home and figure those issues out, not on taxpayer dollars. So yes, I am going to be bringing forward the motion to expel Eric Swalwell next week, and I think that this is going to trigger other motions,” Luna continued. “And you know what? Bring it. It’s time. This is way overdue.”

“I think that this is just the bare minimum that we can deliver for the American people. Let’s not tolerate public corruption in the House of Representatives. This is not rocket science. This is basic 101,” she added. “Most people go to jail over this.”

“So, it’s time for these people to go. So yes, I’ll be voting to expel members of Congress, and I hope my colleagues join me. We need two-thirds of the vote,” Luna’s video concludes.
