Florida Police K9 Takes Down Fleeing Suspect After U-Haul Pursuit and SWAT Standoff [WATCH]

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office has released video footage detailing a standoff that led to the arrest of two individuals from Gainesville following an incident in Flagler Beach.

According to authorities, the situation began on April 13 when 911 dispatchers received a report of a suspicious U-Haul truck parked on a sidewalk beneath a bridge in Flagler Beach, located south of St. Augustine. Deputies were dispatched to the area to investigate the report.

As a deputy approached the vehicle, the truck left the scene and began traveling south on State Road A1A.

Law enforcement officials said the Flagler Beach Police Department deployed stop sticks during the pursuit, successfully disabling the vehicle and bringing it to a stop.

Authorities identified the driver as 48-year-old May Ling Ip and the passenger as 40-year-old Jamie Allen Mays.

Following the stop, both individuals remained inside the truck and refused to exit for more than an hour, according to the sheriff’s office.

During the standoff, law enforcement used drones to monitor activity inside the vehicle.

The sheriff’s office said additional resources, including a SWAT team, were called to the scene as the situation continued.

SWAT personnel used less-lethal rifle rounds to break the truck’s side mirrors and deployed a spiked ball device, referred to as a “Shatterball,” to break the driver’s-side window.

Authorities said these measures were taken to gain compliance after the individuals continued to refuse commands to exit the vehicle.

Pepper spray was then used, which led to Ip exiting the truck.

According to officials, she attempted to flee toward the beach but was apprehended by a K-9 unit shortly afterward.

Mays remained inside the vehicle after Ip was taken into custody.

Authorities said a second K-9 unit was deployed into the truck, prompting Mays to surrender without further resistance.

Ip was taken into custody and charged with fleeing and eluding with lights and sirens activated, resisting arrest without violence, battery on a law enforcement officer, attempted aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of marijuana under 20 grams.

Mays was arrested on a charge of resisting arrest without violence. Both individuals were booked into jail and are being held awaiting bond, according to the sheriff’s office.

Authorities also released information regarding the prior criminal histories of both individuals. Officials said Ip has previous charges that include drug possession, obstruction, trespassing, and failure to appear.

Mays is listed as a registered sex offender stemming from a conviction involving lewd and lascivious battery involving a minor between the ages of 12 and 15. Authorities said his record also includes prior charges related to drug possession and battery.

The sheriff’s office said the release of video footage provides a detailed account of the events leading up to the arrests, including the use of law enforcement tactics during the standoff.

The incident remains under review as part of standard procedure following the use of force and deployment of specialized units.
