Sen. Elizabeth Warren criticized a CNBC host during a televised exchange after being compared to Donald Trump while discussing the nomination of Kevin Warsh to lead the Federal Reserve, as reported by Fox News.

The exchange followed remarks Warren made earlier this week during a Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee hearing, where Warsh appeared for a confirmation process lasting approximately two and a half hours.

Warsh, who was selected by President Trump in January, is under consideration to serve as chair of the Federal Reserve. If confirmed, he would oversee monetary policy decisions, including interest rates and borrowing costs, for the next four years.

During the hearing, Warren criticized Warsh’s record and questioned his independence, referring to him as a potential “sock puppet” for the president. She also stated that he was “uniquely ill-suited for the job as Fed chair.”

Warren later appeared on CNBC to discuss her concerns, warning about the implications of political influence over the central bank.

“If we have a Fed chair who is listening to a President of the United States who said, ‘Oh, tariffs don’t cost anything,’ ‘Oh, blockade in the Strait of Hormuz does not raise prices,’ ‘Oh, prices are not going up.’ We have a president who thinks he can bend reality,” Warren said.

“We need a Fed chair who can actually assert reality. That was the test I was looking for. Kevin Warsh can’t do it.”

During the interview, CNBC host Sara Eisen responded by pointing out Warren’s past public commentary on Federal Reserve policy and her support for previous officials.

“I mean, you yourself have been very outspoken on this show and otherwise on what the Fed should be doing. You also advocated for Lael Brainard and Janet Yellen, who you were aligned with on policy views,” Eisen said.

“I mean that this is — this isn’t that different, you know, with the president expressing what he wants in terms of policy and who he wants.”

Warren reacted strongly to the comparison.

“I’m sorry. Is that real? It is not different to just say, ‘Here’s my opinion and here’s how I read the numbers’ and ‘Here’s who I think has a good track record?’” Warren said.

“You think that’s the same as being the President of the United States and employing the Department of Justice to bring criminal charges against someone, sending someone a notice that they have been fired?”

She continued, “Donald Trump is not expressing an opinion. Donald Trump is trying to control the Fed. You know it, and I know it.”

Following the exchange, Fox News Digital reported that it reached out to the White House for comment. A spokesperson responded with a statement defending Warsh’s qualifications and criticizing Warren.

“Pocahontas needs to stop embarrassing herself and simply admit that even though Kevin Warsh is eminently qualified to serve as our next Fed Chairman, she won’t support him because her mind has been hollowed out by Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

The confirmation process for Warsh continues as lawmakers weigh his qualifications and views on monetary policy. The Federal Reserve chair position plays a central role in shaping the nation’s economic outlook, including inflation control and employment conditions.
