Democrats have spent the past couple of days thanking God that everybody is OK after YET ANOTHER leftist tries to assassinate Trump, and have bent over backward to praise the Secret Service and law enforcement for capturing the shooter.
The @SecretService is unfunded tonight because of the Democrat shutdown.
— Tim Burchett (@timburchett) April 26, 2026
None of them, though, has addressed the fact that they have been keeping the very people they are praising unpaid due to their obstructionism in funding the Department of Homeland Security.
Others have noticed, though.
…Sen. Chuck Schumer, who has blocked their funding for over 70 days, immediately posted, “I’m grateful for the quick response of law enforcement and am praying everyone remains safe.” The only thing more impressive than their stout courage is Schumer’s striking lack of shame.

Democrats—the few who will answer the question of why they keep voting to stop the funding—blame the president for not giving in to their demands to keep ICE and the Border Patrol unfunded.
As if closing down our national defense against border invaders is the most normal thing in the world.
Remember this when you see the “I’m so grateful for these people” tweets from Democrats like @SenSchumer and @RepJeffries. Democrats are blocking the pay for these people to protect criminal illegal aliens. https://t.co/iJrE4lMhBZ

Which, I suppose, is for the Democratic Party today. They march in the streets demanding that murderers, pedophiles, rapists, and gang members be allowed to stay in the country, and assert that merely setting foot in the United States makes you a “neighbor” who must be allowed to roam free and commit crimes in the United States.
Ruben Gallego has voted over 15 times in the past 7 months to withhold pay from Secret Service agents and other law enforcement officers. https://t.co/gryxskAtxI

I’m pretty certain that there are a number of Democrats in Congress who would, in private, admit that they are in a bind and that their political campaign against Trump has gone too far, but they have caught a tiger by the tail.
They are relying on the most extreme members of their party for their electoral energy, and nominating folks like Graham Platner, Jay Jones, Abdul el-Sayed, and rushing to get the approval of people like Hasan Piker, whom they have elevated to pundit status.
On Wednesday, you called for “maximum warfare” on President Trump and his administration.
Your disgusting rhetoric is inciting violence. https://t.co/i5gV67dASV pic.twitter.com/BIdEJPp9iL

How can they just reverse course? It’s the same as with their socialist base and their gender ideology base. They cannot do an about-face, because the people they have courted are revolutionaries who believe in political violence.
Better that violence be directed at Republicans and President Trump than at themselves.
I am closely monitoring the unfolding situation at the White House Correspondents Dinner. I’m grateful for the quick response of law enforcement and am praying everyone remains safe.
— Chuck Schumer (@SenSchumer) April 26, 2026
Still, it is going to take some serious tap dancing to explain why the Secret Service should remain unfunded after yet another leftist tries to kill the president, and it is possible that some in the media are a bit concerned now that they have been in the actual line of fire.
But you won’t vote to fund the Secret Service.
Why is that? https://t.co/ovMskxSV0E

The same is true with their war against the president’s ballroom. It’s hard to imagine a better object lesson about the need for a secure location for major events than having a madman rush at you with a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives, leaving behind a manifesto echoing all the talking points that you have been pushing against the president.
You and your party have defunded those law enforcement personnel
Time to end the DHS shutdown https://t.co/oWG7ZBTwbm

Cole, the shooter, was a denizen on BlueSky, the lefty’s favorite social media platform, because it is kinder, gentler, and more truthful than X. He followed many of the people he regretfully said he would shoot if necessary to get to the president and cabinet members.
You literally just reposted Hakeem Jeffries quote calling for “total warfare everywhere” only a days ago. Start being responsible with your platform instead of calling for violence. https://t.co/TIwEIeg43z

The Democrats know what they are doing. You may recall that Chuck Schumer threatened the Supreme Court with cutting their security budget after an assassin was caught going after Brett Kavanaugh.
It wasn’t just “chaos” at Ford’s Theater
Or in Dallas
Or in Butler
Assassination attempts are serious
Shocked to see @washingtonpost minimizing last night’s attempt on President Trump’s life as “chaos” pic.twitter.com/Idv3tRTwUs

Withholding security is a tactic they are comfortable with. But one assumes that there are limits, and having the Secret Service rush the president and cabinet members out of the room on national TV may put more pressure on the Democrats.
Graham Platner said that violence with a gun was a necessary means to achieving social change.
Last night someone tried to do just that and kill the President. pic.twitter.com/WXSyhBIQT3

But maybe not. The Democrats sure need their base fired up.
