Activist Greta Thunberg is not participating in a new Gaza-bound flotilla following controversy surrounding the group, including allegations of misconduct involving its leadership and participants, as reported by The New York Post.
According to details provided in , Thunberg had previously taken part in flotilla voyages connected to efforts aimed at delivering aid to Gaza. She returned from a second trip in October after being detained in Israel, later describing conditions during her detention.
Recent attention has focused on her association with Swedish photographer Chris Kebbon, who has been present during portions of her activism. Kebbon, 23, is based in Stockholm and has worked with social and climate justice movements. He was also involved in the “Fridays for Future” climate strikes alongside Thunberg.

Images and social media posts have contributed to speculation about a personal relationship between the two. Kebbon previously shared a message on Instagram that read, “Last calm moments together before departure filled with love, care and silly moments,” alongside a photo taken aboard a vessel displaying a Palestinian flag.

The pair were also seen together upon Thunberg’s return to Stockholm following her deportation from Israel, further fueling public attention. Neither Thunberg nor Kebbon has publicly addressed the nature of their relationship.
At the same time, Thunberg has not commented on allegations that have recently surfaced involving individuals connected to the flotilla leadership. The current mission has drawn scrutiny after claims circulated regarding inappropriate conduct among participants.
One of the central figures in the controversy is Thiago Avila, who has publicly denied the allegations. In a video posted on Instagram, Avila addressed the accusations, stating, “There are many ways to try to destroy a revolutionary activist.” He added, “This is a fabricated allegation. The three people that they mention, they’re comrades.”
Avila also said, “You have no idea how many threats we received . . . This has been causing a lot of harm. Not only to me, but to my family.”

The flotilla effort has also drawn criticism from international observers. Francesca Albanese commented on the broader effectiveness of such missions, stating, “Excuse me friends, but you have to be honest.”
She continued, “I hate this feeling of being the party pooper. But as a movement it needs to be effective. Look, I have nothing against being performative — it’s good to be performative. But performance on its own doesn’t suffice.”
Albanese further added, “It really feels with badges, and pictures, and all this, it’s becoming more and more like the environment I’m used to being in, the United Nations.”
Thunberg stepped back from a leadership role within the flotilla in September, citing internal disagreements among organizers. Reports indicate that discussions within the group had shifted toward internal disputes rather than focusing on the mission itself.

The current flotilla is expected to depart without Thunberg or Kebbon, who have remained in Europe. Thunberg is reportedly working on a documentary project during this time. Kebbon also shared a recent social media post critical of the flotilla effort.
The situation surrounding the flotilla continues to develop as organizers proceed with the mission amid ongoing scrutiny and public debate.
