President Donald Trump signaled support for a proposal to rename U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, endorsing the idea in a social media post that drew attention to the ongoing national debate over immigration enforcement, as reported by Fox News.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump shared a screenshot of a message originally posted on X suggesting that ICE be renamed NICE, standing for National Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The post read, “I want Trump to change ICE to NICE (National Immigration and Customs Enforcement) so the media has to say NICE agents all day everyday.”

Trump responded directly to the suggestion, writing, “GREAT IDEA!!! DO IT. President DJT.”

A White House spokesperson did not provide additional comment when asked about the proposal, instead referring inquiries to the president’s Truth Social post. The official White House rapid response account on X also circulated a screenshot of Trump’s message.

The discussion comes as the Trump administration continues efforts focused on border enforcement and immigration policy. Federal authorities have emphasized measures aimed at strengthening border security and addressing illegal immigration.

ICE, formally known as U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, operates under the Department of Homeland Security and is responsible for enforcing federal laws related to border control, customs, trade, and immigration.

The agency has remained a focal point in political debates in recent years, particularly among Democratic lawmakers who have called for significant changes or, in some cases, the agency’s elimination.

Among those voices is Pramila Jayapal, who recently reiterated her position on ICE. In a post on X earlier this month, Jayapal wrote, “ICE is not keeping us safe. It’s terrorizing our communities, detaining U.S. citizens, and letting people die in custody. Abolish ICE.”

The proposal to rename the agency, while not accompanied by any formal policy announcement, has generated discussion due to its potential implications for public messaging and political discourse surrounding immigration enforcement.

Trump’s endorsement of the name change idea comes amid broader policy priorities focused on border control and enforcement actions. Administration officials have repeatedly pointed to the importance of immigration enforcement agencies in maintaining national security and enforcing existing laws.

No formal steps have been announced regarding a name change for ICE, and it remains unclear whether any legislative or administrative action will follow the president’s public support for the concept.

The exchange highlights how immigration policy continues to be a central issue in national political conversations, with differing perspectives among lawmakers and officials shaping the debate.
