First Lady Melania Trump issued a public response to ABC late-night host Jimmy Kimmel following remarks made during a recent episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” in which he delivered a monologue that included a joke about her.

Posting on X from the official First Lady account, Melania Trump criticized the tone and content of Kimmel’s remarks and called on ABC, which is owned by Disney, to take action. “Kimmel’s hateful and violent rhetoric is intended to divide our country. His monologue about my family isn’t comedy — his words are corrosive and deepens the political sickness within America,” she wrote.

She continued her criticism in a series of statements directed at both Kimmel and the network airing his program.

“People like Kimmel shouldn’t have the opportunity to enter our homes each evening to spread hate,” Mrs. Trump said.

Addressing ABC’s parent company directly, the First Lady added, “Enough is enough. It is time for ABC to take a stand. How many times will ABC’s leadership enable Kimmel’s atrocious behavior at the expense of our community,”

The response followed a segment on Kimmel’s show that aired days before the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

During the broadcast, Kimmel performed a mock version of a Correspondents’ Dinner roast and included a line directed at the First Lady. “Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow,” he said during the monologue, drawing laughter from the studio audience.

The remarks came shortly before a shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C.

According to reports, 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen allegedly forced his way through a magnetometer and opened fire, striking a Secret Service agent before being apprehended.

Authorities said Allen had donated $25 through ActBlue, a Democratic fundraising platform, earmarked for Kamala Harris’s presidential campaign.

A senior Trump administration official said Allen wrote a manifesto outlining an intent to target Trump administration officials.

The same official stated that Allen had attended a left-wing No Kings protest.

Fox News correspondent Jacqui Heinrich reported that Allen’s brother alerted authorities after receiving the alleged manifesto.

Video from the dinner showed Secret Service agents quickly responding to the situation, surrounding President Donald Trump and the First Lady as gunshots were heard.

Witnesses could be heard shouting “Get down!” before agents escorted the president and first lady to safety. The event was canceled following the incident.

President Donald Trump later addressed the situation, calling the suspect “a sick guy” and describing the incident as “a rather traumatic experience” for the First Lady.

Kimmel has faced criticism previously for comments made on his program. In September 2025, he drew backlash after discussing the killing of Charlie Kirk, stating that Republicans and others were “desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them,” referring to the “MAGA gang.”

That characterization was disputed by officials and details from the case, which indicated a left-leaning ideology.

Following those remarks, broadcast affiliate Nexstar Media Group opted to preempt Kimmel’s show on its owned and partner ABC stations.

The company stated that the comments were “offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse” and “do not reflect the spectrum of opinions, views, or values of the local communities.”

ABC confirmed last December that it had signed Kimmel to a one-year contract extension before his previous agreement was set to expire in May.

The deal ensures that Kimmel will continue hosting the network’s late-night program through at least May 2027.
