Actor Daniel Baldwin accused late-night host Jimmy Kimmel of contributing to an environment of hostility toward former President Donald Trump following an assassination attempt at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, as reported by Fox News.

Baldwin shared his concerns during the May 3 episode of “The Daniel Baldwin Show,” which Breitbart later highlighted.

He argued that constant negative commentary about Trump from Hollywood figures could have real-world consequences. Baldwin described his sadness over how the industry reacted after authorities said a gunman targeted Trump and members of his administration during the event.

Here’s What They’re Not Telling You About Your Retirement

Baldwin used the incident to question whether political jokes and criticisms from celebrities might encourage acts of violence. He said that even though discussions of politics have long been part of Hollywood, the current tone feels especially dangerous compared with what he experienced earlier in his career.

“I remember being on movie sets with big-name people, Oscar winners, high-paid talent,” Baldwin said.

“And they would just be s—ing on some politician or person, like, ‘Yeah, someone should get him.’ ‘Someone should shoot him,’ once someone said in front of me. And I thought, ‘Wow, your voice carries weight. You know, your words have followers and people.’”

He then directly addressed Kimmel’s recent criticism of Trump from his late-night monologues. “Does Jimmy Kimmel not realize that when you keep bombarding in every one of your monologues and planting this kind of hatred in the American public or the people that follow you, someone might act on that?” Baldwin asked.

Baldwin went on to clarify that he was not claiming Kimmel was legally responsible for the incident. However, he questioned whether the late-night host had thought about the potential effect of his words.

“Now, does that exonerate Kimmel of any wrongdoing? Yeah, he didn’t do it, but did he play a role in it? Does he care that he played a role? Is that the point? Does he do it because he wants that to happen? I don’t know the answer to those questions, but I’m sad, man,” he added.

To illustrate how he believed things have changed, Baldwin referenced the assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan in 1981. He mentioned a resurfaced clip of Johnny Carson speaking solemnly about the shooting and observed that Hollywood’s tone was far less hostile at that time.

“We never hated anyone. We never wanted someone to die or laughed about them dying. It’s really disturbing to me,” Baldwin said. He contrasted that period with what he sees as a modern entertainment culture that treats political animosity as acceptable or even humorous.

Baldwin, who became a conservative in 2016, said the current climate has influenced how he views his own profession.

“I used to be proud to say I was an actor,” he said. “You walk into a room now and say, yeah, I’m an actor. I’m a movie actor and television actor… It’s not something I’m as proud to say, or is it as big a deal because of the hatred that comes out from that side.”

Kimmel, meanwhile, faced renewed attention over comments he made before the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner. During a parody skit, he joked that first lady Melania Trump had the glow of an “expectant widow,” which drew criticism from the Trumps and led them to call for his firing.

Kimmel later defended himself, saying the comment was meant as a lighthearted joke about Trump’s age rather than a call for violence. “It was not, by any stretch of the definition, a call to assassination,” Kimmel said.

The host has faced controversy before. Last year, he was briefly suspended by Disney following backlash over remarks about the assassination of Charlie Kirk. ABC pulled the show temporarily, but Kimmel later returned and insisted his words were never meant to mock a death.

As of now, ABC has not responded to Fox News Digital’s request for comment on Baldwin’s remarks. Baldwin’s statements underscore the growing debate over political humor, responsibility, and the line between satire and incitement in America’s divided media landscape.

Fox News’ Brian Flood contributed to the report, which was written by Kristine Parks for Fox News Digital.
