CBS Anchor Cuts Taiwan Broadcast After Cameraman Collapses Mid Segment [WATCH]

A live broadcast of CBS Evening News was suddenly interrupted on Wednesday after a cameraman suffered a medical emergency during an on-air report from Taipei, as Fox News reported.

CBS anchor Tony Dokoupil was reporting live from Taiwan ahead of President Donald Trump’s upcoming summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing when the incident occurred.

During the report, Dokoupil was discussing China’s rise and tensions involving Taiwan when he abruptly stopped speaking after hearing a crew member collapse off-camera.

“You will hear a lot about American decline and the rise of a powerful new China — is he OK?” Dokoupil said during the live segment.

Moments later, Dokoupil immediately called for assistance as the broadcast remained live.

“We’re gonna take a quick break. We have a medical emergency here. We’re calling a doctor,” Dokoupil said before the report was cut short.

Another person on set could also be heard saying, “Call the doctor, please.”

CBS quickly switched coverage back to New York, where chief correspondent Matt Gutman briefly signed off for Dokoupil following the interruption.

The network later released a statement saying the cameraman was “okay and recovering” after suffering the health emergency during the broadcast.

Dokoupil is currently stationed in Taipei covering President Trump’s high-profile diplomatic meetings with Xi Jinping. According to CBS, the network was unable to secure a visa in time to report directly from mainland China ahead of the summit.

CBS said Taiwan remains a major focus of the meetings because of increasing tensions between China and Taiwan, as well as ongoing disputes involving trade and artificial intelligence policy.

The summit between Trump and Xi is expected to focus heavily on international trade, artificial intelligence oversight, the Taiwan situation, and the continuing conflict involving Iran.

President Trump arrived in Beijing this week for the two-day summit with Xi at the Great Hall of the People. Images released from the event showed the two leaders reviewing an honor guard during an official welcome ceremony.

Fox News Digital reported that it reached out to CBS for additional comment following the on-air medical emergency.
