Jamie Raskin is not a stupid man.
He is, instead, an evil man. One of the Democrats’ “designated liars” who will sincerely look you in the eye and tell you the most outrageous lies. Lies that only a Democrat could possibly take seriously. Which they do.
At the House Judiciary Committee hearing, Raskin asked what seems to be an obvious question:

The point of the question was to suggest that ICE is not doing the obvious–keeping criminal aliens off the streets. Sanctuary cities obviously wouldn’t have a problem with illegal alien crime if only ICE would do its job!
It’s really devious because the answer is: sanctuary cities will not allow them to. In fact, they make it nearly impossible to do so, and whenever ICE catches a criminal alien on his way out of jail, the entire city erupts in outrage.
ICE can’t do its job because liberals like Jamie Raskin make it impossible, and encourage activists to assault ICE and CBP officers when they try to protect the public.

Raskin knows this. Unlike many liberal lawyers in politics, he is not a moron. Morons don’t become the designated liars.
He was a law professor, which even in these insane times means something about his intellectual chops, even if he uses them for evil. He is more the Bernie Madoff of lawyers than the Alan Dershowitz, but still. He knows what sanctuary laws mean.

Michelle Wu in Boston is famous for having rapists smuggled out the back door of jails in order to ensure they get away from ICE. Activists will grab rapists and “unarrest” them. ICE Out protesters will even try to injure federal agents (or worse), which is how Alex Pretti and Rene Good wound up dead.
That’s why ICE can’t detain criminals in jail before they get out. It is the policy of liberals to prevent it. They do everything in their power to ensure that these illegal aliens roam the streets and terrorize ordinary citizens.
Tom Homan has repeatedly tried to negotiate with these local officials, almost always in vain, because it is the policy of the left to ensure that murderers and rapists roam the streets. They are quite proud of that policy, and even brag about it.
“Nobody is illegal on stolen land.” “Only a few apartment complexes” are controlled by Tren de Aragua.
Punishing criminals doesn’t represent their values, so they do their utmost to prevent it.
