Texas Sen. Ted Cruz said Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass’s policies have helped fuel momentum for Spencer Pratt’s mayoral campaign, as the former reality TV star gains traction with voters in the deep-blue city, as reported by The New York Post.
Cruz made the comments to TMZ while discussing Pratt’s campaign and the public response to his videos criticizing Bass and other Los Angeles officials.
Pratt, whose home burned down in the Palisades fire, has used social media to attack city leadership while positioning himself as a mayoral candidate focused on crime, homelessness, and local failures.
Here’s What They’re Not Telling You About Your Retirement
“At the end of the day, you might be the most liberal person in the world,” Cruz told TMZ.
“You might like 95% tax rates, but you may not want your kids being accosted, you may not want to have to step over human feces to walk to work. And at the end of the day, the policies of Karen Bass have failed.”
Cruz said Pratt’s campaign videos have connected with voters because they address concerns many Los Angeles residents are seeing in their daily lives.
“There’s a reason they’ve gone viral because they speak to a real truth, which is tragically the policies of Karen Bass have been devastating for Los Angeles,” Cruz said.

The Texas Republican also said he thinks Pratt’s videos are “awesome” and that he looks forward to them.
Pratt has drawn attention online for campaign videos aimed at Bass and Los Angeles City Councilwoman Nithya Raman.
In April, he posted a video titled “They not like us,” which mocked Bass and Raman over their multimillion-dollar homes. The clip attracted millions of views across social media.

His most recent video responded to a TMZ report showing Pratt had been living at a hotel in Bel Air rather than only in his Airstream trailer on the property where his home burned down in the Palisades fire.
“Now this is a story all about how my life got flipped, turned upside down,” Pratt captioned the video, which was set to the “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” theme music.
The video showed the rubble of Pratt’s former home and blamed Bass and other Los Angeles politicians for the Palisades fire. Pratt’s response turned criticism of his living situation into another campaign message about the fire and the city’s leadership.
Cruz was also asked whether an endorsement from President Donald Trump would help Pratt in a city that remains heavily Democratic.
“I have no idea,” Cruz said.
He later said crime and homelessness are not “left-right” issues.
A recent poll showed Bass leading the mayoral race with 35% support. Raman and Pratt were tied at 23%.
Pratt’s campaign has become part of a broader debate over whether Los Angeles voters are willing to move away from current city leadership amid frustration over homelessness, crime, and the fallout from the Palisades fire.
Cruz said Bass’s record has created an opening for Pratt, even among liberal voters who may not agree with him politically.
