Former First Lady Jill Biden told CBS News that she thought former President Joe Biden was having a stroke during his poor 2024 debate performance.
Biden faced Trump in June 2024 during an early debate pushed for by his campaign. Throughout the debate, Biden stumbled through answers and seemed lost. The debate caused Democrats to call for Biden to drop out of the 2024 presidential election, which he eventually did, leaving former Vice President Kamala Harris to run for the White House. “I was frightened, because I had never ever seen Joe like that before or since. Never,” the former First Lady told CBS News Sunday.
“I don’t know what happened,” she said. “As I watched it, I thought, ‘Oh, my God, he’s having a stroke.’ And it scared me to death.”

The full interview will premier on Sunday. It previews her upcoming memoir, “View From The East Wing.” The book releases on June 2. Former President Joe Biden is reportedly also working on his own memoir.
Harris also wrote a book about the end of her time in the White House as well as her run for president in 2024.
“107 Days” gives Harris’ perspective on why her campaign for president came up short. The former vice president largely blamed the amount of time she spent on the campaign trail as her reason for losing, arguing that she needed more time.
The Democratic National Committee’s (DNC) autopsy of Harris’ 2024 presidential race was leaked on Thursday. It was largely incomplete, sloppy and missed major themes of the race, including: women’s sports, inflation, podcasts and “Make America Healthy Again.”
“When I received the report late last year, it wasn’t ready for primetime. Not even close. And because no source material was provided, fixing it would have meant starting over, from the beginning – every conversation, every interview, every data set,” DNC Chairman Ken Martin wrote in a statement following the release of the autopsy. “I am not proud of this product; it does not meet my standards, and it won’t meet your standards. I don’t endorse what’s in this report, or what’s left out of it. I could not in good faith put the DNC’s stamp of approval on it. But transparency is paramount. So, today I am releasing the report as I received it – in its entirety, unedited and unabridged – with annotations for claims that couldn’t be verified,” Martin stated, linking to the report.
