Charges Announced Against Wannabe Trump Assassin Cole Thomas Allen [WATCH]

The U.S. Department of Justice announced Monday that it has filed three federal charges against Cole Thomas Allen in connection with a shooting at the April 25 White House Correspondents’ Dinner held at the Washington Hilton hotel.

According to the Justice Department, Allen faces charges of attempted assassination of the President of the United States, interstate transportation of a firearm to commit a felony, and discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said the charges could result in a sentence of life in prison if Allen is convicted.

Blanche addressed the case publicly on April 27, outlining the severity of the charges and the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“This man was a floor above the ballroom with hundreds of federal agents between him and the president of the United States,” Blanche stated.

“The Department of Justice approaches incidents like this with urgency and clarity of purpose. Violence has no place in civic life. It cannot, and will not, be used to disrupt democratic institutions or intimidate those who serve them, and it certainly cannot continue to be used against the President of the United States.”

The shooting occurred during the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner, an event attended by government officials, journalists, and invited guests.

Officials said law enforcement personnel were positioned throughout the venue at the time of the incident. No breach of the main ballroom occurred.

Blanche said the Justice Department formally filed the charges in United States District Court and detailed the penalties associated with each count.

“Today, the Department of Justice filed three federal charges in United States District Court against Cole Thomas Allen. The first count is attempted assassination of the President of the United States. This count is punishable by up to life in prison,” he said.

He added that the second charge, interstate transportation of a firearm to commit a felony, carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

The third charge, discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence, carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and a maximum penalty of life in prison, with the sentence required to run consecutively to any other term imposed.

Blanche also addressed the response by law enforcement during the incident, stating that officers acted according to their training.

“We will apply the law fairly, and we will ensure that accountability is swift and certain. But we also should recognize what did not happen. Law enforcement did not fail. They did exactly what they are trained to do… the men and women who protected us that night were trained, professional, and had an enduring commitment to the rule of law,” Blanche said.

Following the incident, the White House confirmed that additional training measures will be implemented for the Secret Service.

Investigators have also reviewed writings attributed to Allen, including a manifesto in which he described his motivations.

“I am a citizen of the United States of America. What my representatives do reflects on me. And I am no longer willing to permit a pedophile, rapist, and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes,” Allen wrote.

He also stated that in “order to minimize casualties I will also be using buckshot rather than slugs,” while adding that those attending the event were “complicit” by their presence.

“Most people chose to attend a speech by a pedophile, rapist, and traitor,” he wrote.

Authorities also examined a Bluesky social media account reportedly linked to Allen, which included multiple posts critical of President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance.

One post allegedly referred to Trump as an “antichrist.”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt addressed the broader political environment during a press conference Monday, referencing statements made by political figures.

She read several remarks from Democratic politicians, including language describing Trump as a “dictator” and framing opposition to him as “warfare.”

The Washington Hilton incident marks the third attempted attack targeting President Donald Trump in recent years, according to officials familiar with the case.

The investigation remains ongoing as federal authorities continue to review evidence and prepare for prosecution.
