Trying Hard Not to Be: ‘The Bottom Line Is New York City Is Not America’

Ah, this New York thing, the City in particular.

Man.

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) scored themselves the trifecta in the Democratic primaries on Tuesday, as most everyone knows by now. The poster boy and current mayor of New York City set some teeth on edge early in campaigns by dissing incumbent Democratic congressmen – one of whom had actually been stupid enough to believe Mamdani was a real Democrat and endorsed him for mayor, the other congressman is just terminally stupid – in favor of these younger, socialist/communist firebrand buddies of his.

As David said in his VIP piece yesterday, Democrats have a communism problem. What they also have is a revolution in the ranks eating the party from within, and Zohran Mamdani is the face of it.

These DSA resistance fighters aren’t ‘Democrats,’ have little to nothing in common with Democrats, and want nothing but one thing the Democrats can provide for them. They’re using the Democratic Party as a means to an end – the end being getting on a ballot. And they are upfront about their manipulative efforts.

There were, in fact, four DSA candidates of note on the ballot, endorsed by Mamdani, who won their primaries, none of whom had a single message that would warm the heart of any left-of-center or centrist Democrat, let alone an American.

They were different.

Claire Valdez, AWFL, won the primary for NY-7.

…Claire Valdez, 36, Queens Assembly member, union organizer & proud NYC-DSA “cadre member” (97% internal endorsement). Openly calls for dismantling/abolishing ICE, abolishing most prisons, Medicare for All via taxing billionaires, and no more taxpayer dollars to Israel for “bombs and weapons.” 

She sponsored the Not on Our Dime Act to strip nonprofit status from groups supporting what it calls illegal settlement activity or war crimes. In a DSA questionnaire, she pledged to refuse affiliation with “Zionist lobbying groups” including AIPAC, J Street & DMFI — even the progressive two-state supporters.

… Hosted Mahmoud Khalil (Columbia encampment organizer) at her launch for “free, free Palestine” chants. Liked a post celebrating Oct 7 violence. Mamdani praised her for naming “the genocide.” She liked an X post reading “Glory to the resistance and the people of Palestinian” after the October 7 attacks.

Former NYC comptroller Brad Lander beat stultifyingly stupid nepo baby Rep Dan Goldman for the right to fight for the NY-10 seat.

Brad Lander, 58, former NYC Comptroller. In NY-10 (one of the highest Jewish voter concentrations in the country, 20-24%), he beat Jewish pro-Israel incumbent Dan Goldman.

Lander calls Israel’s actions “genocide” in Gaza (and likely Lebanon), backs Block the Bombs, sat out the Israel Day Parade, and spoke at a mosque with Holocaust denial/Hamas ties. He’s backed Mamdani and serves as his useful Jewish foil. 

He wants to abolish ICE and stop deportations. He advocates for a redistribution of wealth for public housing and he speaks often about “dark money,” a reference to AIPAC. He is an unqualified supporter of “gender affirming care” for minors and wants to make New York a sanctuary from federal restrictions on transgender youth…

Another huge upset was a young carpetbagger named Darializa Avila Chevalier knocking off the NY-13 five-term congressman and head of the House Hispanic Caucus.

The Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic caucus lost a primary yesterday to one of the Mamdani endorsed DSA candidates, Darializa Chevalier.

This is a deep blue district, where the primary winner is certainly going to win the general.

The incumbent was running for his 6th term.  He’s a political institution in those neighborhoods — 10 years in the NY State Assembly, 10 years in the NY State Senate, and 10 years in Congress.  

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus has 43 members — the Chairman is elected by the members.

Chevalier is 32.  She was born in Florida, but attended Columbia from 2012 to 2016, graduating with a degree in Middle Eastern Studies.  She was involved in student activism, and is still a PhD candidate at CUNY — in her 7th year.  She was one of the leaders of the “student” antisemitic protesters at Columbia in 2024.

She has accomplishing NOTHING in her life to date. ..

She’s not all that into America even though she’s running for a seat in Congress.

Democrats just nominated a woman for Congress named Daraliza Avila Chevalier.

She openly hates America. She said in a social media post “I forgot to get napkins so I just wiped my hand on the American flag behind me.”

She calls America a “F**ing disgrace.”

The Muslim convert has rabid fans among the college students, many of whom, like her, are perpetual students. At the time, the 23-year-old Chevalier was in her seventh year of school, pursuing her PhD.
