Armored Truck Robbed in Broad Daylight by Two Heavily Armed Suspects in Philadelphia [WATCH]

Authorities are investigating a robbery in Northeast Philadelphia after two armed suspects stole approximately $1.8 million from an armored truck Tuesday morning, according to police sources.

The incident occurred around 9:45 a.m. in the 7200 block of Torresdale Avenue in the Tacony section of the city.

Police said two men armed with assault rifles targeted a Brinks truck that was stopped in the area.

According to investigators, the armored truck had been parked at the Torresdale bus loop and was servicing a Budget Financial Center at the time of the robbery.

Officers responding to the scene found the truck pulled over along the roadway as they began collecting evidence and speaking with witnesses.

Police sources said the suspects approached the truck and carried out the robbery before fleeing in a blue vehicle.

Authorities later identified the getaway vehicle as a blue Acura SUV.

A short time after the robbery, police located the vehicle near Front Street and Fairmount Avenue in the Northern Liberties neighborhood.

Footage from the scene showed the SUV being towed away as investigators continued to examine the area.

Law enforcement officials said the vehicle is being processed as part of the ongoing investigation.

An image released as part of the case shows one of the suspects wearing a mask.

Police have not yet released additional identifying details about the individuals involved.

No injuries were reported during the incident, and authorities confirmed that no arrests have been made at this time.

The area where the robbery occurred is described as a busy commercial corridor.

Officers remained at the scene for several hours following the incident, interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses.

One witness described what they observed as the situation unfolded.

“We can see from our point of view was arguments and the car just took off on the sidewalk. That’s what I saw,” the witness told Action News.

The witness added, “And then, of course, when the cops came, that’s when they said we need to see the cameras. The store got robbed at gunpoint.”

Law enforcement officials have not released additional details regarding how the suspects gained access to the funds or how the robbery was carried out beyond initial descriptions.

The FBI has taken the lead in the investigation, according to sources familiar with the case.

Federal authorities are now working alongside local police to track down the suspects and determine the full circumstances of the robbery.
