A Massachusetts woman is drawing national attention after boldly stepping up to represent her state at President Donald Trump’s Great American State Fair, even as her own governor tried to sideline the celebration.

Donna Festinger, a proud patriot from the Bay State, refused to let Democratic leaders erase Massachusetts from a moment meant to honor 250 years of American independence.

Festinger didn’t wait for an invitation or a government sponsor.

She packed her bags, paid her own travel expenses, and headed straight for Washington, D.C., determined to make sure her state had a presence at the fair.

“I came here to represent Massachusetts because I didn’t want the public to walk into an empty room. I wanted somebody to be there,” she told Fox News Digital.

Her decision came after Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey, along with several other Democratic governors, boycotted the Great American State Fair.

Their justification was the usual blend of political spite and virtue signaling. Festinger, however, saw through it immediately.

“I’m very disappointed that Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts decided their governments decided not to support this effort to celebrate our American heritage,” she said.

“It’s actually shameful.”

Governor Healey, a longtime Trump critic, made matters worse by mocking the fair during her appearance on Boston Public Radio.

She tossed cheap barbs at the event and even floated a baseless claim that the president was “getting money into his own pocket.”

Healey’s comments offered a textbook example of liberal disdain for patriotism disguised as policy disagreement.

Festinger’s response could not have been more different.

“It makes me feel like they really don’t love America or Massachusetts,” she said, pointing directly to her state’s Democratic leadership.

She wanted no part in the political pouting and instead chose to celebrate America’s heritage in person.

The Great American State Fair, held on the National Mall, is part of President Trump’s Freedom 250 initiative honoring the nation’s semiquincentennial.

The event runs from June 25 through July 10, featuring exhibits from across the country that showcase American accomplishment and unity.

While eleven Democrat-led states snubbed the occasion, Festinger stood tall for Massachusetts, alone but undeterred.

She arrived at the beginning of the fair and plans to stay all sixteen days.

It’s not a political statement for her, she insists, but a matter of pride and principle.

“Most people are upset about it and do not understand why a governor would do that,” she said.

“That’s actually uniting people, Democrats, Republicans, independents- and agreeing that every state should be proud of our country.”

In a political climate where division is often the product rather than the problem, Festinger sees the fair as something refreshingly unifying.

Her message?

Patriotism should never be partisan.

“I think the Trump administration is working hard to bring the country together,” she added.

Festinger has been joined by another Massachusetts patriot, Judith Kalaora, a Boston resident and historical reenactor who donned a Revolutionary War uniform to honor Deborah Sampson, the Bay State woman who disguised herself as a soldier to fight the British.

Kalaora brought history to life while embodying what Democrats like Healey conveniently ignore: the state’s deep patriotic roots.

“I’m hopeful that my being here will unite folks to realize that Boston and Massachusetts have a great spirit,” Kalaora said.

“That spirit can unite the United States through our nation’s heritage and our military history.”

The irony is easy to spot. Democrat governors who claim to stand for “inclusivity” are choosing exclusion when it comes to celebrating America’s founding.

They boycott the very ideals that allow them the freedom to make fools of themselves on the national stage.

As Festinger and Kalaora quietly uphold the values of independence and self-determination, the political elite back home continue playing petty games.

Healey’s boycott joined that of Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, who said Trump was “politicizing” the event, and Oregon Governor Tina Kotek, who echoed the same tired complaint.

Oregon’s office rejected participation, claiming it was too expensive and “too partisan.”

In other words, liberal leadership found too much America in the Great American State Fair.

While the liberal establishment hides behind excuses, ordinary Americans like Festinger remind the country what real patriotism looks like.

She did not ask permission. She did not wait for bureaucratic approval.

She simply acted.

That is what makes America great. It is what Massachusetts once stood for before its current leadership lost its way.

Even as a summer heatwave hits Washington, the fair continues to draw large crowds of families proud of their country’s resilience and spirit.

Visitors walk state to state through exhibits filled with flags, artifacts, and stories that tell the real American story, not the filtered, politically approved version liberals serve up in classrooms.

Festinger’s stand may be small in scale, but symbolically, it’s mighty. She carried a message from tens of millions of Americans who are tired of seeing their love for country mocked or ignored.

Her presence at the Massachusetts booth is more than symbolic; it’s a reminder that ordinary citizens can still defend their heritage when politicians refuse.

“Times change, and emotions change, and that’s okay, as long as we still remember that we’ve done great things,” Kalaora said.

Her words could have been spoken by any patriot across the generations.

As Maura Healey fumes from Boston, Massachusetts has found someone else to represent it.
