Commentator Scott Jennings criticized Texas State Representative James Talarico after remarks the Democrat made referencing a biblical passage while discussing abortion.

The exchange centers on comments made by Talarico, who is also a Christian pastor, during a discussion about abortion and religious interpretation.

In the remarks, Talarico referenced the Gospel of Luke and argued that the story of Mary receiving the message of Jesus’ birth included the concept of consent.

Here’s What They’re Not Telling You About Your Retirement

Jennings referenced the comments during a segment discussing the issue and criticized Talarico’s interpretation of the biblical account.

“Remember, this is a supposed Christian pastor who believes that God sent an angel to Mary to ask her if she wanted to have an abortion while she was pregnant with Jesus,” Jennings said.

“I know it sounds crazy, but here is Tallarico telling that story in cut number five.”

In the video clip Jennings referenced, Talarico explained his view that the biblical account highlights the concept of consent.

“But I think all this in terms of in context of abortion, because before God comes over Mary and and we have the Incarnation, God asks for Mary’s consent, which is remarkable,” Talarico said.

“I mean, go back and read this in in in Luke. I mean, the angel comes down and asks Mary if this is something she wants to do, and she says, if it is God’s will, let it be done. Let it be let it happen.”

Jennings argued that the comments reflect broader positions among Democrats on abortion policy and criticized the use of religious language in support of abortion rights.

“This is how committed to abortion on demand that the Democrats are,” Jennings said.

“They have put all their hopes and dreams into a man under the guise of Christian theology who believes God offered Mary an abortion, and he would like to offer you one as well.”

Jennings also pointed to a past letter sent by Talarico to then-President Joe Biden regarding abortion access.

According to Jennings, the letter was sent on official Texas State Legislative letterhead and proposed the use of federal facilities as locations for abortion services.

“So I guess it should come as no surprise that Tallarico once sent a letter on official Texas State Legislative letterhead asking then President Joe Biden to transform federal facilities like military bases, post offices and national parks into abortion clinics,” Jennings said.

Jennings emphasized the locations mentioned in the proposal and questioned whether the idea would gain support in Texas.

“Yes, you heard that, right,” Jennings said.

“But I asked, do we think this is going to fly in Texas a guy who looks like he’s up past his bedtime fighting to open up an abortion clinic in your local post office, at your national park at a military base, and doing it all under the guise of, well, you know, the Bible says God asked Mary if she wanted to have an abortion.”

Jennings concluded by expressing skepticism that such proposals would be accepted by voters in Texas.

“I don’t think so.”
