So, on top of everything else we’d known about Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner, it also turns out he’s an alleged rapist. It wasn’t enough to fantasize about raping a home invader–totally “not in a gay way,” mind you–but now it’s alleged he invaded someone’s home and raped her. If only he had come with a warning label, like a tattoo or something to show that he wasn’t a good guy.
But, for the most part, that’s a topic for our sister sites like Townhall, Hot Air, Red State, PJ Media, and even Twitchy to handle. It’s not what we do here, except to point out that if his alleged victim had been armed and shot him, all of this could have been avoided. It’s not her fault she didn’t, just to be clear, as hindsight is 20/20 and all that, but it would have saved everyone a lot of trouble.
The reason I’m actually bringing it up, though, is because of a concern going around some circles in Maine at the moment.
@SteveRob reports security has been increased among certain people in Maine who are afraid of who he called “Platneristas” and Platner, especially given his past and statements about violence
— Katie Pavlich (@KatiePavlich) July 6, 2026
A bold statement.
Late last year, we wrote about a previous bit of reporting that Rob did, which showed he taught firearms handling to an Antifa-affiliated group.
It seems it was more than just a few classes, according to Rob.
Eight months later, two new accounts corroborate the original reporting from opposite directions — one a grateful student, one a former Tinder fling who posted in alarm of a man with a Nazi tattoo who’d started a gun club in coastal Maine.
The new information confirms that Platner was not just member of the organization, but that he held a leadership role in the firearms training group.
Last week, a poster on r/portlandme published an open letter of thanks titled “Graham Platner Taught Me How To Shoot A Handgun.”
“Flashy title, I know,” the post opens. The author describes being one of a number of “afraid queer folks” who sought self-defense training in 2020, and identifies Platner by name and role: “Graham was the officer, largely in charge, of the Maine branch of the SRA (Socialist Rifle Association).”
The second account is the more significant of the two — because it is documented and time-stamped.
A left-wing streamer / cannabis-enjoyer using the X handle @420mercymain69 came forward the day after Platner clinched the nomination, alleging she met him on Tinder in February 2021 and dated him through mid-July of that year.
The same SRA published and distributed information on how to subvert law enforcement surveillance of cell phones and how to use “burner” phones.
Now, this isn’t a slam dunk as far as Platner running some kind of left-wing militia that will engage in violence if he doesn’t remain the nominee. However, leftist extremists sure seem to be a lot more likely to engage in violence when they’re upset than anyone on the right is–and don’t come at me with “studies” that try to link every crime committed by a skinhead as “right-wing violence” while dismissing actual acts of left-wing terrorism. There’s reason to be concerned.
Rob also notes a bit of irony in that one of the people who Platner defeated in the primary was State Sen. Joe Baldacci, who led a charge in 2024 to ban the exact kind of training that Platner is said to have provided.
Granted, he wasn’t necessarily trying to hurt the left with his proposal, as he was thinking of right-wing militias.
The big question remains: Did Platner do anything wrong with this training?
Look, I don’t like socialists with guns, but that’s because socialists with guns also come with an ideology that says to use those guns to force us to accept socialism. It’s not the guns, but the ideology that I dislike.
However, absent any actual overt act, the historic framework is there for both arming yourself and training to be effective in combat as private citizens. Even if your ideology is a terrible one.
The problem here isn’t that Platner may have a personal militia, which isn’t as clear a claim as I’d like for it to be, but that there’s a legitimate fear that this militia will engage in violence because their socialist messiah turned out to be a massive creep at best, and a violent predator at worst. You’d think the Totenkopf tattoo would have given it away–and Platner had another explanation for that in Rob’s piece, by the by–but that wasn’t enough for some people, nor were the accusations of three women in the New York Times piece.
Just the same, if you’re in Maine, you might want to stock up on ammo and canned goods.
