A political firestorm erupted in Minnesota after the state’s largest newspaper published a glowing piece defending Democrat Governor Tim Walz and his shocking decision to pardon a convicted child rapist who was also in the country illegally.

The outrage was swift and widespread, fueled by disbelief that anyone could publicly cheer the clemency of a man who repeatedly violated a ten year old girl.

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer of Minnesota did not mince words, calling out the Star Tribune for its twisted values.

“The Minnesota Star Tribune is cheering on Tim Walz protecting an illegal alien monster who raped a 10-year-old girl. No one should read this depraved rag. They are sick,” Emmer wrote on X, echoing the anger felt by thousands of Minnesotans.

Here’s What They’re Not Telling You About Your Retirement

The pardon in question was granted by Minnesota’s Board of Pardons on June 10.

The board includes Walz himself, Attorney General Keith Ellison, and state Chief Justice Natalie Hudson, all Democrats.

Their unanimous vote gave clemency to Tou Lue Vang, a Laotian national convicted of repeatedly raping a young child between 2002 and 2004.

Vang was set to be deported before the pardon halted the process.

Adding insult to injury, the Star Tribune’s columnist Rochelle Olson praised Walz’s role in the pardon in a column section titled “Cheers to Gov. Tim Walz.”

The piece lauded the governor for standing by his decision and never mentioned the age of the victim or the fact that the assaults took place over two horrific years.

Instead, Olson framed the move as an act of courage by a compassionate leader and even drew an outrageous comparison between Vang’s crimes and the actions of January 6 protestors.

“Vang’s actions 20 years ago were awful, but so were the violent protests at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, and those folks received presidential pardons,” Olson claimed, ignoring that one group aimed to express political dissent while the other destroyed a child’s innocence.

Her argument ignited a digital inferno. Commentator Dennis Neale slammed the paper’s logic.

“The Star Tribune likens repeatedly raping a 10 year old girl to protesting in the Capitol on Jan 6. You fluppin’ idiots,” he posted.

Other voices online echoed similar fury, accusing the paper of moral blindness and media corruption.

Many pointed out how the Star Tribune’s defense of Walz reflects the left’s deepening cultural sickness.

Dustin Grage wrote, “The Minnesota Star Tribune just gave a ‘Cheers’ to Tim Walz for standing by his pardon of a convicted child rapist. Absolutely disgusting.” Jeremy Carl of the Claremont Institute piled on, saying the “degeneracy of the modern left would be impossible to exaggerate because it is impossible to exaggerate infinity.”

Even as outrage intensified, Walz refused to show regret.

The governor doubled down on his decision to pardon Vang, defending it as an act of mercy and questioning whether punishing the offender further would “make anyone safer.”

His comments left families across Minnesota stunned and furious at what many see as open contempt for victims of crime.

Republican Senator Marco Rubio took firm action, ending the delay Walz’s pardon had caused.

“Just weeks ago, a foreign child rapist was freed to once again endanger America’s children after receiving a pardon from Minnesota Governor Tim Walz,” Rubio told Fox News Digital.

“I terminated his legal status in the United States. Vang has now been removed from our country and will never pose a threat to any American ever again.”

That decisive move drew widespread applause from those who believe in law, order, and justice for victims.

WATCH:

Online users contrasted Rubio’s leadership with Walz’s weakness, noting how the governor seemed more interested in earning applause from progressive media than in protecting American children.

Critics also noticed the striking absence of compassion for the victim in both Walz’s rhetoric and the Star Tribune’s coverage.

Instead of reflecting on what justice truly means, the paper chose to celebrate a political stunt that angered much of the state’s population.

The victim was reduced to a footnote, mentioned only in passing through a secondhand letter cited by Olson.

Laura Ingraham and former ICE Director Jonathan Fahey also blasted the Democratic approach to criminal justice and immigration enforcement.

They highlighted how Walz’s pardon of a violent offender fits a broader pattern of liberal leniency that places ideology above safety.

“Democrats cannot seem to decide whether they want to secure the border or coddle criminals,” Ingraham said.

The episode has exposed a deep divide in Minnesota politics. On one side stand ordinary citizens who still believe justice should protect victims and punish offenders.

On the other side are political elites who appear determined to bend the law to fit their progressive version of compassion.

Walz’s critics argue that he has turned mercy into moral cowardice.

As this controversy simmers, one truth stands out.

The Star Tribune and Governor Tim Walz have made clear where their loyalties lie, and it is not with the safety of American families.

For most Minnesotans, no editorial explanation or lofty talk about second chances can erase the horror of a decision that put ideology above justice.
