Coming Soon at the RNC Midterm Convention: ‘Socialists on Parade!’

The NRSC called Michigan a “target-rich environment” after Abdul El-Sayed’s narrow primary victory this week. I have made the same argument about the midterms in general after the collection of socialist crazies emerging from the DSA into actual nominations to the Senate and gubernatorial elections. Democrats clearly didn’t learn their lesson from the Graham “Der Oysterführer” Platner debacle. 

I have argued repeatedly that the GOP can make them into an overarching narrative that can apply in every single midterm contest.  Platner, El-Sayed, and Francesca Hong all can fit a Todd Akin model, using one embarrassing and unprepared candidate to force all others to account for him or her, and the GOP has plenty of socialist extremists from which to choose. The response I get every time is this: “Do you think Republicans will actually do it, though?”

The answer, according to Axios, is yes. And they will use their novel midterm convention in Dallas next month to give it the highest possible profile:

Republicans plan to use their first-ever midterm convention in Dallas next month to mount a sweeping, made-for-prime-time case that Democrats have become captive to their activist left, Axios has learned. …

Driving the news: Republicans will make progressive politicians and activists recurring characters throughout the Sept. 9-10 convention at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.

• GOP operatives spent months compiling footage of Democratic figures — including left-wing commentator Hasan Piker and Texas U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico — that they’ll use throughout the convention to paint Democrats as outside the mainstream.

“Our video trove is endless,” a convention source told Axios.

Both the convention and this strategy offer a way around a couple of problems for the GOP in this cycle. Donald Trump is not a particularly popular figure, although he did manage to win the popular vote two years ago against Kamala Harris. His strength works best in the primaries, whereas Democrats have used Trump effectively in the past as a GOTV foil. That worked especially well in 2018. The war with Iran has people unhappy with gas prices and the uncertainty of whether Trump has a real plan for it. Inflation has ticked up, and thanks to the war, the White House has not effectively addressed “affordability” in this cycle. 

The convention solves the biggest problem with all of those, however, which is the Protection Racket Media. Trump and the RNC have been trying to raise alarms over the socialist takeover of the Democrat Party, but the media has only covered it with their usual “Republicans Pounce!™” narrative dodges and scoff at the use of what the media insists are “Red Scare” tactics. A two-day convention will give the RNC a platform to speak directly to the American people, or better yet, to let these DSA-aligned Democrat nominees to speak directly to them, in their own words, about what they truly want and truly believe. 

And yes, the RNC and its allies have an “endless” trove of material to use, most if not all of it from the mouths of the Democrats themselves. 

That’s not going to be the only way in which the RNC plans to highlight the danger of the radical Left:

The convention will commemorate the first anniversary of the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

This also comes after two more assassination attempts against Trump in the last four months. It’s not just rhetoric coming from the Left these days. Don’t be surprised to see footage from violent and obstructive street actions across America in support of Hamas, fueled by these candidates and the people behind them. El-Sayed would be a particular focus here too, with his father-in-law dumping millions into his campaign while maintaining ties to the Muslim Brotherhood through ISNA and CAIR. 

Will it work? It depends on how much this information saturates the electorate. The hostile Protection Racket Media will do its best to limit that saturation, but the convention will at least provide a work-around to that for two full days. After that, it’ll take a sustained advertising campaign to make socialists and extremists the main issue for the 2026 midterms, but at least this should give it a good launch.
