A resurfaced 2023 interview is creating fresh trouble for Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico, who spoke proudly about his church sheltering illegal aliens from deportation and embracing a long list of progressive causes.

The footage, obtained by Fox News, puts his own words at the center of the Texas race.

In the interview, Talarico described a congregation that fought for LGBTQ rights during the 1990s and later welcomed an atheist into its ranks.

He presented those choices as evidence of faithful disruption, declaring that “Christianity is just another word for causing trouble.”

Gold. Upgraded. Buy real gold from $1. Store it in America. Sell it with one click.

That framing was only the beginning. Talarico also applied the inflammatory Christo fascist label to conservative Christians who support abortion restrictions, protections for minors from sex change procedures, school choice voucher programs, and public displays of the Ten Commandments.

He portrayed those policies as part of a movement using religion to gain political, social, and economic power.

He further claimed that the movement was dangerous, particularly to people he characterized as marginalized and oppressed across the state.

The contrast is hard to miss.

A candidate seeking to represent deeply religious Texas voters used loaded language against Christians who defend unborn life, parental authority, and historic moral teachings, then expected the public to accept that rhetoric as a thoughtful expression of moderation.

His campaign is now trying to soften the fallout.

A spokesman insisted that Talarico is a moderate Christian who supports border security and law enforcement, while dismissing Republican criticism of the candidate’s progressive record as “flat out lies.”

The spokesman also cast Talarico as a Christian seminarian committed to the teachings of Jesus and willing to confront religious and political corruption.

The campaign accused opponents such as Ken Paxton of twisting Talarico’s faith, while saying the Democrat would keep urging Texans across the political spectrum to love their neighbors.

That defense faces an obvious problem because the controversy comes from Talarico’s recorded remarks rather than a Republican campaign mailer.

Voters can watch him celebrate a church hiding people from deportation and hear him condemn conservative policy priorities in sweeping theological terms.

Border security is not an abstract concern in Texas, and sheltering people from lawful deportation is hardly a minor biographical footnote.

When a candidate boasts about such conduct, campaign assurances about supporting law enforcement deserve scrutiny, especially when those assurances arrive only after the footage resurfaces.

Talarico’s comments on Christianity have already followed him throughout the campaign.

He previously argued that the Annunciation of Our Lord could justify abortion, claimed that God is nonbinary, and called restrictions on sex change procedures for minors sinful.

Those are not isolated slips made during a hurried exchange.

Together, they reveal a consistent progressive theology that places modern left wing priorities above the convictions of many churchgoing Texans, then treats dissent from that agenda as corruption or extremism.

The resurfaced interview could sharpen the stakes in the November midterm election, where Talarico is set to face Trump ally Ken Paxton for the Texas Senate seat.

Paxton now has potent material for contrasting his record with a Democrat whose comments may alienate religious and border conscious voters.

For conservatives, the episode also shows the familiar pattern of a progressive candidate speaking boldly before a friendly audience, only to discover moderation once broader scrutiny arrives.

The cleanup crew can issue statements, but it cannot erase video or make voters forget what they heard.

Talarico wants Texans to view his politics as Christian compassion in action.

Yet many voters are likely to see something very different, namely contempt for conservative believers, leniency toward illegal immigration, and a campaign scrambling to rebrand radical statements as harmless faith based advocacy.

Gold is the oldest answer. SoundMoney makes owning it as easy as the apps you already use.
