Now I have a better idea why Democrats keep promoting former CIA agents as their rising star political candidates.

Not only are they skilled at pushing color revolutions, but apparently, the CIA is a great place to commit financial fraud, which is another key part of the Democratic Party’s reason for being.

David Rush wasn’t just working in the CIA.

He was a “former senior executive service-level employee at a United States government agency” member of the CIA.

I have many, many questions!

— Kristi L. Talmadge (@KristiTalmadge) May 28, 2026

David Rush, an ex-CIA official, was arrested for stealing $40 million in gold bars from the US government.

He also lied about having degrees from Clemson University and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, as well as an evaluation certification from the US Naval Test Pilot School.

Can someone please explain how this individual, working in the UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT UNDER THE CIA, was able to pass background checks where no one cross-referenced his education history to see if it was true?

Truly mind-boggling.

No doubt, most people will be amazed that David Rush managed to steal $40 million in gold bars from the CIA. After all, each bar weighs over 27 pounds, so you can’t just walk out with them, and if the reports are true, he managed to steal them right under the bureaucrats’ watchful eyes.

He requisitioned them. He actually requisitioned them. You have to admit that was a ballsy move, and in itself it shows that something very very wrong is happening at our nation’s premier intelligence agency.

🚨 HOLY SMOKES. A former senior CIA OFFICER has been arrested on MASSIVE FRAUD, STEALING 300 gold bars and secretly stashing them, worth $40 MILLION — and using his position to do so

WOW.

“This was someone given currency [he] said needed to be used to pay for operations he was in CHARGE of!”

“Rather than keeping it in his office, they found $40M worth of gold and $2M cash IN HIS HOME.”

The matter involving David Rush was referred by Trump CIA Director John Ratcliffe

The man also apparently LIED about his background and schools he attended

His home was raided last week, per NBC

He needs maximum FAFO!

But I actually find the fact that Rush was employed by the CIA at all even more troubling. You can imagine, sort of, how a clandestine agency would not ask too many questions of a senior official with a seriously high security clearance who says he needs the gold for some shady foreign intelligence operation.

But the man committed major fraud just to get hired by the CIA, and managed to get through the countless security clearance processes he must have gone through to get hired, promoted, and become a senior official. He applied three times, got rejected twice, and kept piling on fake credentials until some genius decided he was too good a catch to pass up.

How does THAT happen? It’s not like he was Aldrich Ames or some Russian plant with a perfect, if fake, record. This is not the plot of The Americans.

The guy was a petty con man. Or perhaps a not-so-petty con man, since he stole $40 million.

CIA Officer David Rush’s mug shot.

Here’s the timeline leading up to his arrest:

David Rush joined the CIA in 2009.  He had applied to the government twice before succeeding on his third attempt in 2009. Leon Panetta was CIA Director as of February, 2009.  Rush had increasingly lied on his resume each time he reapplied.

November 2025 – March 2026: Rush made multiple requests for and received large quantities of foreign currency and tens of millions of dollars in gold bars, claiming they were for “work-related expenses,” like covert ops or informants.

April or early May, 2026: During a routine agency audit/review of asset storage and accountability, the CIA discovered that most of the gold bars and significant amounts of the currency were missing from official custody/storage. This mismatch triggered the internal investigation.

Mid-May 2026: The internal probe identified potential criminal violations. CIA Director John Ratcliffe referred the matter to the FBI for a full law enforcement investigation.

May 18, 2026: FBI raid on Rush’s home in Fairfax County, Virginia.

May 19, 2026: Arrest.

We all expect the CIA itself to engage in dishonesty, but we also expect the agency to be good at rooting it out, given that it is in the business of intelligence and of committing fraud against our adversaries.

But no, apparently not. The agency hired a guy who faked his resume. Three different resumes, each more dishonest than the last.

And then hid the fact from those doing background checks and security screenings to ensure that we could trust him with our nation’s secrets. That was the primary part of his job.

Remember, this guy was high enough to requisition $40 million in gold and get it. For “work-related expenses.”

If that doesn’t frighten you, what would?
