DoorDash Mom Left with Skull Fractures After Savage Bat Attack [WATCH]

A North Carolina mother of three is recovering from a serious brain injury after authorities say a man followed her to a DoorDash delivery location and attacked her with a bat, as reported by Fox News.

Christen Phillips was making a delivery in Jacksonville, North Carolina, on Aug. 1 when the confrontation began, according to the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office.

Phillips said she had been stopped at an intersection waiting for the vehicle ahead of her to move.

She honked her horn to alert the driver, identified by investigators as Stanley Shockley, 44, to move forward.

According to the sheriff’s office, the vehicle moved out of Phillips’ way before allegedly following her to the location where she was scheduled to deliver food.

Phillips completed the delivery and was returning to her vehicle when Shockley allegedly got out and attacked her before fleeing the area.

“He came around to my door with a small wooden bat or baton and beat me in the head and face with it,” Phillips said in a social media post.

Phillips said she did not remember the attack itself.

“I don’t remember it at all. I woke up an unverified amount of time later,” she said.

Despite her injuries, Phillips was able to drive herself to a nearby hospital. She has since undergone several days of surgeries while recovering from the attack.

Her suspected attacker was arrested Monday, according to the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office.

Shockley, 44, is facing a charge of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury, according to records.

The case drew attention because the alleged attack happened during a routine food delivery and in broad daylight.

Investigators said Shockley followed Phillips after she honked her horn at him, ultimately confronting her after she reached the delivery location.

Onslow County Sheriff Chris Thomas said investigators relied on tips and evidence while working to identify a suspect.

“We understand the public does not see what goes into every investigation, and a case like this can make citizens uneasy. We appreciate the number of tips and leads the public provided us. Our detectives follow every lead, carefully work through the evidence, and continue to pursue answers even when the investigation presents challenges. Their hard work ultimately led them to identify a suspect and make an arrest.”

The sheriff’s office confirmed Shockley’s arrest in connection with the Aug. 1 incident.

DoorDash also responded to the attack and said the company would continue assisting investigators.

“What this Dasher went through is horrific, and we’re relieved she’s safe and on the road to recovery. We’re grateful to law enforcement for making an arrest and will continue to assist their investigation in any way we can,” a DoorDash spokesperson said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

Phillips’ recovery continues as the criminal case moves forward. The investigation remains with the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office, which said detectives continue working through the evidence surrounding the alleged attack.
