El Sayed Attacks Vance’s Marriage After Sharia Criticism Triggers Meltdown [WATCH]

Michigan Democrat Abdul El Sayed lashed out at Vice President JD Vance and dragged his marriage into the fight after Vance criticized the Senate candidate’s past defense of Sharia law.

The exchange quickly became another revealing moment in Michigan’s closely watched Senate contest.

Vance raised the issue while speaking to American workers, recalling El Sayed’s claim that criticism of Sharia law was rooted in white supremacy.

The vice president contrasted that position with the Democratic Party his grandfather knew.

Vance said, “I’d love to go back in time and tell my Papaw that there’s a man who claims to stand for working people who says not only should we have Sharia law, but if you criticize it you’re a white supremacist. That’s not my Papaw’s Democrat Party, my friends,”

Rather than directly explaining his position on Sharia law, El Sayed fired back with a personal jab involving Vance’s wife.

It was the familiar political maneuver of changing the subject when the original subject becomes inconvenient.

“So do we think JD is taking Usha with him back in time to meet Papaw, or no…” El Sayed wrote Saturday on social media.

The comment pointedly brought Vance’s marriage and family into a debate about El Sayed’s own publicly stated religious views.

Usha Vance and her family are Hindu, not Muslim, and there is no basis for suggesting they would seek to impose Sharia law on Americans.

That rather obvious fact made El Sayed’s attack look less like a serious rebuttal and more like an attempt to manufacture outrage.

The episode was not the first time El Sayed had targeted Vance’s wife and family.

Breitbart News reported in May that the Democrat refused to apologize for previous remarks described as vile, leaving voters to judge whether personal family attacks are now central to his campaign strategy.

El Sayed’s own record remains relevant because his campaign has confirmed that he follows Sharia law in his personal life.

Resurfaced comments from 2009 showed him describing that practice as a lifelong “obligation,” a detail voters may reasonably consider when evaluating his public positions.

During a later interview, El Sayed accused Vance and President Donald Trump of questioning his American identity.

He again shifted the dispute away from his comments about Sharia law and toward accusations involving race, religion, and belonging.

“He’s painting this picture of going back in time to talk to his Papaw, about me. Now why is he pointing to me? Why is Donald Trump pointing to me? They’re pointing to me to try and say somehow I’m less of an American than they are. What does that have to do with? I don’t know, the color of my skin, how I pray? But the confusing thing about it is that he thinks there are some people who are more American than others because they can point to their Papaw who was here earlier.”

El Sayed then invoked Vance’s relationship with Usha’s parents, claiming the vice president was implying they were somehow less American.

Yet Vance’s remarks focused on El Sayed’s political argument about Sharia criticism, not the citizenship or patriotism of Usha’s family.

That distinction matters, especially when a candidate is seeking one of the most powerful offices in the federal government.

Asking about a Senate nominee’s prior statements is not an attack on his identity, no matter how eagerly Democrats reach for that familiar shield.

Vance’s underlying point was plainly political and cultural.

He argued that traditional working class Democrats would not recognize a party in which criticism of Sharia law could be branded white supremacy, particularly when many Americans hold deep concerns about religious law influencing public government.

El Sayed’s response offered plenty of indignation but little clarification about where he believes personal religious obligation should end and American civil law should begin.

Instead, he targeted Vance’s marriage and cast himself as a victim, a routine that may excite progressive activists but leaves the central question unanswered.

The clash arrives as Michigan’s Senate race remains highly competitive.

A recent AARP survey found Republican nominee Mike Rogers and El Sayed virtually tied in the general election, meaning exchanges like this could shape how undecided voters view each candidate’s judgment and temperament.

Michigan voters now have a clear contrast before them.

Vance challenged El Sayed’s record, while El Sayed responded by invoking race, religion, and Vance’s family rather than giving a straightforward answer about his own words.
