It’s Fairfax County, of Course: 9/11 Curriculum Filled With Islamophobia Warnings

Many school curricula barely acknowledge the fact that 9/11 happened at all, but with the Pentagon just five miles away from the Fairfax County border and many of the residents working there, in Crystal City, or at federal agencies, it’s impossible to just ignore the fact that it happened.

So what to do if you are a county that fails to prosecute murders, embraces every illegal alien rapist, and teaches hatred for anybody it considers melanin-deficient?

Easy: distract from the fact that it was Islamists who committed the terrorist attacks, and use the events to teach a morality lesson about how Muslims are the good guys.

Fairfax County’s new 9/11 teaching guide devotes roughly half its content to creating “safe spaces for Muslim and Middle Eastern students.” while mentioning military families just three times and first responders once.

The six-page document, obtained by Fox News Digital’s @AsraNomani, contains 30 references to Islam, “anti-Muslim racism,” and “Islamophobic rhetoric.” It explicitly tells teachers not to “associate the 9/11 attacks with Islam or Muslims” and not to “center the extremists or the acts of the extremists.” Only about 15% of the guide actually spells out specific 9/11 instruction.

Retired Vice Admiral Lou Crenshaw, who was inside the Pentagon when al-Qaeda terrorists flew a plane into the building, ripped the guide for failing to convey “the evilness of what actually happened,” calling it a sanitized, “vanilla” approach that shaves the facts until students can’t figure out what they’re learning about.

I remember the days following 9/11 with a clarity that is unusual for me. Usually I can’t remember what I did last week, and if my wife asks me at the end of the day what I wrote about that day, I struggle to recall.

But, like many of you, those days are seared into my memory. I remember watching the towers fall, the clear blue skies in the following days, unmarred by contrails, and all the lectures about Islam being the religion of peace.

I also recall watching the celebrations of Muslims around the world, cheering at how their compatriots struck the Great Satan.

JENNINGS: “Other Palestinians, “…” will be happy to see this attack on the U.S. today. So, take a look at a scene from Jerusalem not too long ago, in which there is some celebration that the powerful United States has been harmed, has been seen to be vulnerable, has been hurt.”

It took little time for the events of 9/11 to be whitewashed. The fact that Osama bin Laden and most of the terrorists were Saudis was memory-holed. The fact that both American and foreign Muslims delighted in the attack was swept under the rug. And, most of all, how our leaders assumed that Americans were rubes who wanted to kill every Muslim, so they had to be managed.

Over the years, we’ve seen efforts to double down on that management, and, as always, it is done through reframing The Narrative™ and massaging history, and the most vulnerable to this manipulation are the people who never lived through it.

“Just about the time they sat down and we started the interview, there was tremendous noise. Bang — the entire building shook, and we knew right away that something bad had happened.”

His work area was later destroyed by fire. He watched smoke billow from the impact zone and saw a chief petty officer crying as shattered glass scattered across the floor.

Crenshaw says the concern about collective blame against Muslims is legitimate — but the guide focuses on “social and emotional learning” without applying the same emphasis to explaining al-Qaeda’s extremist ideology and how the hijackers interpreted Islam to justify killing nearly 3,000 people.

“What we saw in 9/11 was a religious extremist group, al-Qaeda, who did not tolerate what the United States was doing around the world, and decided to react violently,” he said. “They are a branch of Islam, but they certainly don’t espouse any of the values that we know of Islam worldwide.”

I can’t fault the attempt to distinguish between sects of Islam and to ensure that the anger remained directed at those who committed the acts and celebrated them. It’s appropriate to ensure that rage is directed at the right people; even if you worry about the totalitarian ideology that guides all of Islam, it makes sense to distinguish between those whose goal is the violent destruction of our society and those who are not as inherently hostile and merely wish to convert us to their religion.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch struck a different tone this week, calling for “moral clarity” about 9/11: “The men who attacked this city were terrorists. The men and women who ran into the towers to save innocent lives were heroes. Twenty-five years cannot be allowed to blur that distinction and shame on those who do.”

Fairfax County told Fox News Digital it has a “deeply personal connection to September 11” and honors the nearly 3,000 killed but the guide’s own language tells a different story about what the district prioritizes in the classroom. It doesn’t name Osama bin Laden or Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the al-Qaeda leaders behind the 9/11 attacks.

But none of that is happening here. The basic characteristics of Islam itself are whitewashed, and the fact that the attacks are motivated by Islamism is buried.

This doesn’t ensure the information is interpreted as factually as possible; it does the opposite. And that is the point. It fuels the Narrative™ that Muslims are the real victims of 9/11, which is a message that is blasted into our living rooms constantly, both by Muslim politicians and the media, which bombards us with “Muslim backlash” stories every year and equates “Islamophobia” with the vicious antisemitism that is rampant.

American children are filled with lessons about Jewish perfidy and the “genocide” of Muslims, while ignoring the fact that Muslims have driven out Christians from their countries, while Israel and Western countries have done the opposite with Muslims in our countries, to our detriment.

Muslims are unwaveringly committed to the belief that their religion is incompatible with all others, and everywhere they migrate to suffers from efforts by Muslims to eradicate the dominant culture. With few exceptions, they don’t integrate, and doing so is seen as a betrayal of the mission of Islam.

We hear constantly about the need to “decolonize” our society, but the fact is that Muslims are colonizers by nature. North Africa used to be primarily Christian; now it is almost exclusively Muslim, and that happened through conquest, not conversion. The same is happening in Europe today, and in parts of America, where elected Muslim leaders sometimes openly tell Americans to get out; the area is theirs.

Liberals have joined this effort, implicitly if not explicitly. Many simply believe that coexistence will be the result, which is yet another example of their unwillingness to face reality and deal with it; a few have embraced Muslims as tools to destroy Western culture, not realizing that they are simply the last on the menu for the wolves. They share a goal — the destruction of the West — so they assume that they are allies.

That was the reasoning of the Iranians who joined with the Islamists in Iran; they were simply wiped out post-revolution.

The alliance between communists and Islamists is seen as a tactical move by the left and the Islamists. What leftists like those in Fairfax County don’t understand is that Islamists share the same basic strategy as the communists in every country they successfully took over: the total eradication of nonbelievers.

Muslims, more than leftists, are practical when it comes to achieving their goal.

As with all totalitarians, the most effort is aimed at children, who are much easier to propagandize. And when you look around, you see that the strategy works.

Our job is to focus on transmitting the truth to the coming generations. We shouldn’t expect young people to share our rage, and it’s not even productive. Just as we have forgiven the Germans and Japanese for World War II, we shouldn’t teach hatred for hatred’s sake.

But clear-eyed reality? That’s something we shouldn’t compromise on. The result will be our destruction.
