WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • Disney raised its ad free Disney+ monthly price from $18.99 to $21,49, effective immediately.
  • Disney+ launched at $6.99 per month and now charges $11.99 for a subscription that includes advertising interruptions.
  • The Hollywood Reporter said streaming prices have risen “three times as much as inflation.”
  • Customers expressed frustration on social media as recurring streaming rate hikes continued.

Disney is facing a fresh wave of customer anger after announcing another increase for its ad-free Disney+ streaming service.

The new pricing took effect immediately, giving subscribers no extended transition before the higher monthly charge arrived, as Breitbart reported.

The Disney+ plan without advertisements is moving from $18.99 a month to $21,49, according to Bloomberg.

The increase adds another chapter to the service’s continuing march toward more expensive monthly access.

Gold. Upgraded. Buy real gold from $1. Store it in America. Sell it with one click.

The announcement lands as streaming customers confront rising subscription costs across the industry.

Services once promoted around comparatively modest monthly prices have repeatedly increased what viewers must pay to maintain access.

A recent examination of streaming costs found that providers have raised their prices at a much faster rate than cable services did during television’s heyday.

That comparison cuts against the financial appeal that helped make streaming attractive to customers.

The Hollywood Reporter offered an especially harsh assessment of the trend, reporting that streaming prices have risen “three times as much as inflation.”

That finding puts Disney’s latest move within a broader pattern affecting several major platforms.

Apple TV provides one of the clearest examples cited in the report.

The service has tripled its price since launching at a low monthly rate of $4.99 in 2019, demonstrating how far some streaming costs have traveled.

Disney+ has followed its own sharp upward path since entering the market.

The service originally launched at $6.99 per month, a figure that now looks increasingly distant from the prices facing current subscribers.

Disney+ currently charges $11.99 per month even for a subscription that includes advertising interruptions.

Customers who want to watch without those interruptions must now confront the significantly higher monthly price announced by the company.

Only HBO Max has maintained a price point described as relatively similar to the one it carried when the service launched in 2020.

It took 6 years and the price tripled from what it was back in 2020

That makes it an exception within the comparison rather than the standard followed by the wider streaming business.

The Disney+ increase has brought the familiar frustration surrounding subscription bills roaring back onto social media.

Customers have used those platforms to make their dissatisfaction with the latest rate hike clear.

Their complaints are sharpened by the frequency of the changes.

The latest increase appears amid rate hikes that seem to have surfaced every year over the last few years, making each new announcement feel increasingly routine.

The backlash also reflects more than a reaction to one isolated monthly figure.

Viewers are watching several services move further away from their lower launch prices while asking customers to absorb another increase.

Disney’s pricing history captures that transformation plainly.

A service that launched at $6.99 per month now charges $11.99 for access with advertisements, while its ad-free option is climbing from $18.99 to $21.49.

dude i used to pay $7.99 for this…. what a scam honestly https://t.co/onldDAgieR

For customers, the divide between plans is also unmistakable.

Paying $11.99 still means accepting ad interruptions, while avoiding those advertisements requires subscribing to the newly increased no-ad service.

At some point y’all gonna realize pirating is ethical more than giving into these greedy ass companies https://t.co/FU1JYgvaPb

The broader comparison with cable adds another sting to the announcement.

Streaming providers have increased prices at a far higher rate than cable services did during their most prominent television era, according to the recent look at industry costs.

Apple TV’s move from its $4.99 launch price in 2019 and Disney+ moving beyond its original $6.99 monthly charge illustrate the same basic direction.

HBO Max alone was described as remaining relatively close to its original 2020 price point.

That pattern helps explain why another Disney+ increase has produced such an immediate response online.

Subscribers are not simply encountering one new number, but a continuing series of increasingly expensive choices across major streaming platforms.

Disney announced the change as effective immediately, leaving the higher cost as the new reality for customers seeking the ad-free service.

i’m sorry but there simply isn’t enough on disney+ to justify this price and unless we start cancelling our subscriptions they’ll just continue to raise the prices. https://t.co/sAyt9KL9qe

Social media users, already weary of recurring increases, responded by voicing their frustration once again.

All this to watch nothing but remakes and subpar sequels to movies that didn’t need them. A lazy corporation producing dogshit content and making you pay double for it. https://t.co/vNdWSTLbCI
