WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • James Talarico’s campaign reused footage and an identical caption from a February 22, 2026, social media post.
  • The original video appeared nine days before Talarico’s primary contest against Rep. Jasmine Crockett.
  • RNC spokesman Zach Kraft criticized Talarico for leaving Texas to attend a big dollar LGBT fundraiser in New York City.
  • Ken Paxton accused Talarico of deceiving voters about campaigning in Texas while fundraising outside the state.
  • Paxton and Talarico are set to compete for the Texas Senate seat in 30 days.

Democrat James Talarico’s campaign was caught recycling footage from a February event while trying to present the material as recent on social media over the weekend. The supposedly fresh campaign moment was anything but fresh.

The same video had already appeared on February 22, 2026. It also carried an identical caption, making the latest post a repeat rather than a new glimpse of Talarico campaigning.

That original posting came nine days before the primary election contest between Talarico and Rep. Jasmine Crockett had even occurred. The timeline left the campaign promoting footage that predated the primary while presenting it over the weekend as something current.

The recycled video quickly drew criticism from Republicans, who focused on both its age and Talarico’s whereabouts. The campaign’s attempt to revive February material offered critics an opening with only 30 days remaining before the election for the Texas Senate seat.

RNC spokesman Zach Kraft criticized the repeated footage and accused Talarico of being absent from Texas. Kraft said Talarico had been missing from the state since leaving for New York City.

Where is James Talarico?

He hasn’t been seen in Texas in a week since his trip to New York City for a $27,000/plate fundraiser.

Now, his team is posting footage from February.

According to Kraft, Talarico went to New York City for a big-dollar LGBT fundraiser. That criticism put the social media video alongside questions from Republicans about why the Democrat was using old Texas footage while fundraising elsewhere.

Republican candidate Ken Paxton delivered similar criticism. He accused Talarico of “deceiving voters about campaigning in Texas” while the Democrat was raising money outside the state.

Paxton also connected the video controversy to his broader criticism of Talarico’s campaign and record. He said Talarico “has lied to Texans about his radical record throughout this race.”

The two Republican responses centered on the same basic contrast. Talarico’s campaign promoted previously released footage from Texas while Kraft and Paxton pointed to his fundraising activity outside the state.

The identical caption also sharpened the problem for the campaign. This was not merely older footage appearing in a newly written message, since the video and accompanying language matched the material posted on February 22.

The timing supplied another awkward detail. The first version appeared before the primary contest between Talarico and Crockett, while the repeated version surfaced after that primary bout had taken place.

Talarico is now set to face Paxton for control of the Texas Senate seat. That contest is scheduled to arrive in just 30 days, placing additional attention on how both candidates are spending the closing stretch.

Paxton’s criticism did not stop with the age of the footage. He argued that Talarico was misleading Texans about campaigning in the state while simultaneously fundraising beyond its borders.

Kraft likewise placed Talarico’s location at the center of his response. His criticism described the Democrat as missing from Texas after heading to New York City for the LGBT fundraiser.

The campaign’s social media maneuver ultimately created a distraction of its own making. Instead of showcasing a recent appearance, the post directed attention back to an event from February and an identical caption already used weeks earlier.

For voters following the race, the relevant dates are straightforward. The video was posted on February 22, 2026, the primary contest occurred nine days later, and the same footage and caption returned over the weekend.

With the election only 30 days away, Paxton and Talarico are heading toward their contest for the seat. The recycled campaign footage has now supplied Republicans with a pointed line of attack as that matchup approaches.

Talarico’s campaign wanted the post to look current, but the campaign’s own earlier upload told a different story. February footage, an identical caption, and criticism over out-of-state fundraising turned the supposed latest stop into a rerun.
