Another Day, Another Data Point Showing Chicago Gun Control Is Worthless

I wish I could say I was surprised, but I’m not. While I enjoyed all the time I ever spent in the city of Chicago, that was when I was 20 and loved the overall excitement of such a famous city. It was also not something I’d want to repeat now, even without all the crime, but the crime certainly doesn’t help. Neither does the gun control that was supposed to stop all that crime.

Obviously, it hasn’t. 

Despite decades of anti-gun efforts by Illinois lawmakers, mostly from Chicago itself, the gun laws have not done what proponents claimed. And, in fact, we have yet another data point showing just how ineffective those laws actually are.

Four people are facing felony charges after sheriff’s police recovered guns and drugs while serving a search warrant at a home in Chicago’s south suburbs last month.

Harvey search leads to four arrests

What we know:

According to the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, investigators executed a search warrant around 7 a.m. on July 23 in the 100 block of West 147th Street in Harvey.

The warrant followed an investigation into suspected narcotics sales at the home, which authorities said is located near a daycare center.

Inside the residence, investigators recovered:

• 11 firearms
• 105 grams of suspected cocaine
• More than 900 grams of suspected weed

The guns consist of two AR-style firearms, one a pistol and the other a rifle, one AK rifle, a lever-action rifle, six semiautomatic handguns, and a revolver.

Not present, apparently, was a FOID card, which is required to lawfully purchase or own a firearm in the state of Illinois. Of the men arrested, the two in their 40s were also charged with being felons in possession of firearms, which should tell you plenty. The other two were both under 21, which means they sure as hell didn’t buy the handguns lawfully. 

Then again, we know good and well that Indiana will get blamed rather than any public official to recognize that maybe all of those gun laws on the books don’t actually stop criminals.

It would be nice to see it happen otherwise, but I won’t hold my breath waiting on it since I might look good in blue; I don’t look good turning blue. I’m weird that way.

Of course, if Indiana were the root of the problem, then what about the cocaine and marijuana? Those sure as hell aren’t legal in Indiana, so if the problem with guns is Indiana, then what about the drugs? Or are officials going to claim that the channels are so vastly different they can’t have any overlap at all?

If they can get cocaine, they can get guns, and the laws in the next state over are irrelevant at that point. Anyone with half a brain should be able to see that plain as day.

So, I guess that rules out everyone affiliated with Everytown, then.

Good guys with guns stop mass shootings. They don’t arm alleged criminals like these four, who were selling drugs near a daycare.

Then again, I don’t think I’d want to take my kids to a daycare located in the same kind of neighborhood where a drug house was set up. That might just be a me thing, but I kind of doubt it.
