Independence Day is, unfortunately, a busy day for hospital emergency rooms, and not just because someone blew off part of their hand with some fireworks they bought from some dude in a travel trailer in a Publix parking lot. No, violence is all too common for some reason, only part of which can be attributed to the heat.
But it happens regardless of the laws on the books.
I’ve long wondered if anti-gunners are living in their own world, considering just how often they act like those laws are working, even if the violent crime rate skyrockets, particularly with firearm-related violent crime, but leave it to Brady president Kris Brown to make the best case humanly possible for them living in a land of make-believe.
11 people were killed + 86 people were injured in shootings in 13 states over July 4th weekend.
Where is the media coverage about unfettered access to guns in America as a driver of the increase and lethality of shootings in this country?

Kris, is the increase in shootings in the room with us right now? How about the lethality?
I ask, of course, because while she’s available to discuss with “journos,” they should probably start with questions about how there’s an increase in both numbers and lethality of shootings when violent crime rates, including the homicide rate, have dropped faster than Graham Platner’s career prospects.
I get that gun control groups routinely try to spin things to make the case that gun control is still needed, even when crime rates drop without gun control. Still, it’s absolutely bizarre that Brown would literally try to claim there’s an increase in shootings and fatalities when the last two years have been nothing but both going down at a historic rate.
Sure, we might see a dead cat bounce at some point, but at the moment, the numbers are what they are, and Brown can’t take one weekend in America, provide absolutely no context at all, either about previous years or literally any other weekend, and then claim there’s an increase in so-called gun violence.
Then again, this is the woman who celebrated the Star Wars series The Acolyte because it didn’t feature blasters. Sure, it had lightsabers, one of which was the only weapon to have been used in a school massacre in the franchise, but who cares about that?
This is a dumber take.
Ignorance of Star Wars lore is forgivable. Not everyone is wrapped up in what happened in every movie. As stupid as it was, especially since that particular scene is pretty common knowledge, even among non-fans of the franchise, this is worse.
There’s ample news about the drop in violent crime. It’s out there, and from sources she might actually trust. What’s more, it’s her job to be aware of these kinds of things. She’s helming one of the largest gun control organizations in the country, so she should at least have some idea of what the crime rates look like, even if just “gun crime.”
But she apparently doesn’t, and she’s continuing to illustrate why I can’t help but see her as anything but the most stupid person in the gun control movement.
The scary part is that she’s running Brady because she’s the best choice.
