BREAKIING: Tate Adamiak Pardoned!

Former Navy sailor Patrick “Tate” Adamiak was serving a decades-long sentence for weapons possession charges that, based on my own view of the evidence, were completely bogus. He violated no laws that I can see, yet he was in prison with the worst of the worst.

Notice, however, that I used the past tense.

Now, Adamiak is free and clear thanks to President Donald Trump.

Lee Williams at The Gun Writer, who has done more to free Adamiak than anyone, has the story.

Former U.S. Navy sailor Patrick “Tate” Adamiak has been pardoned by President Donald J. Trump—effective immediately. He was one of several people pardoned by President Trump Friday.

Adamiak, who still had 16 years left to serve of his 20-year federal prison sentence, will soon be a free man.

Adamiak was not yet available for comment, as he was being out-processed Friday afternoon.

He has said he plans to continue his legal fight against the government since he never committed a single crime, and with his felony convictions completely overturned he can now fight as a free man.

The Second Amendment Foundation’s Investigative Journalism Project published more than 60 stories debunking Adamiak’s arrest, conviction and lengthy prison sentence.

“We are thrilled that he is free. He did nothing wrong and broke no law,” said SAF founder and executive vice president Alan M. Gottlieb. “It took a humanitarian like President Trump to rectify a government wrong.”

Adamiak’s defense attorney Calum Welch was thrilled Friday.

“I am very excited for Tate and couldn’t be prouder to have played a small role in his getting home where he deserves to be,” Welch said.

I can only imagine what a relief the Adamiak family is feeling right now. I also respect his decision to continue fighting to clear his name. He did nothing wrong. He should never have been in prison in the first place. His career was effectively scuttled, which he might be able to rebuild, but he’ll be lagging behind his peers now. His freedom was ripped from him, and the nation he swore to protect from all enemies treated him like the enemy.

He deserves to be free. He deserves to be fully exonerated.

And the ATF personnel who railroaded him should take his place in a federal penitentiary. Either they lied about what the evidence was or they lied about their expertise with regard to determining if a crime was committed. Since both of those happened in open court, while under oath, that’s perjury.

I doubt anyone will see a moment in prison other than Adamiak, unfortunately.

Still, this is fantastic news, and I look forward to following and covering his fight to clear his good name.

In all of this, I’m going to publicly give Lee Williams massive credit for what has transpired. Yes, he kind of toots his own horn in the quoted section, but damn it, he deserves to. He’s covered this for months and months. He’s been like a freaking machine, doing everything he could to remind people of Adamiak’s plight.

Today, that paid off and, for all I know, Adamiak is breathing free air right now.

Thank you, Lee, for your tenacity.

Thank you, President Trump, for doing what’s right.
