Massachusetts is the place where the American Revolution kicked off, and all because the British came to enforce gun control. Today, most in the state seem more likely to have helped the Redcoats than their fellow Americans, as the one-time colony that birthed much of the revolutionary fervor that eventually gave us the Second Amendment is now more likely to stomp on people’s rights.

But not everyone in the state feels that way. There’s a pro-gun movement there, and they managed to get some items on the ballot in November that, if successful, would serve as a massive blow to the anti-gun Democrats who run the state.

However, it’s going to be an uphill battle for pro-gun advocates. Not because the ideas are bad, but because of a couple of factors that have to be addressed before they can be successful.

Deciphering the Confusing Referendum Language

Bachant said gun owners are facing a “total uphill battle” because Attorney General Andrea Campbell drafted the referendum, which seeks to repeal the gun law, in a way that will confuse many voters.

A “yes” vote would not repeal the law but would uphold it, so voters must vote “no” if they want to overturn the law. Bachant said the referendum question has yet to be assigned a number, making it more difficult to promote the effort to voters.

Echoes of 1775 and the Fight Against Voter Apathy

Bachant said “the biggest problem is apathy” in trying to convince voters to fight to defend their constitutional rights. Think about this: if modern Massachusetts gun laws existed in 1775, we might still be British.

The election is on November 3, 2026.

Now, let’s understand that Campbell’s drafting and the refusal to give the referendum question a number could just be incompetence, which I won’t rule out. Those actions, though, are more likely to be maliciousness designed to make it harder for it to pass, in my opinion. After all, how do you put signs on laws or buy billboards when you can’t even tell people which referendum you’re talking about?

This was already a tough fight because a lot of people in the state actually think gun control is not just constitutional, but helpful. They’re unlikely to vote to overturn anything unless they explicitly stand against it, and as noted, voter apathy is a thing. Unless it impacts them, they’re not going to worry about it.

But without having the means to efficiently tell people what the question they’re talking about is, they’re having to trust that people will remember every aspect of their effort, be motivated to vote a given way, and actually do it.

While I tend to believe one shouldn’t be too quick to attribute to maliciousness that which can be easily ascribed to incompetence, this isn’t one of those times I can do so. This feels intentional, and even if it’s not, the effect is just the same.

That fight is brewing, and it will heat up in the coming months. It’s a good time to rally behind our Massachusetts brothers and sisters and help them make a statement in this fight.

Seeing the people send a clear, pro-gun message in one of the most gun-controlled states in the country would be a beautiful sight.

Editor’s Note: The radical Left will stop at nothing to enact their radical gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
