This H2Go Global Water Purifier (and it’s military counterpart, the H2Go Prime Water Purifier) is new to me, but apparently it’s been around for several years. The device uses sunlight and table salt to create a chlorine solution for water treatment and is capable of treating tens of thousands of gallons, or so they say. Pair it with a basic water filter, like the Sawyer mini, and you’ll give yourself the best chance of avoiding severe illness caused by waterborne diseases, like Giardia, during an evacuation or lengthy bug out.
That said, I’m not sure how much I would rely on a piece of electronics for such a necessary function as treating water. And it’s not exactly cheap, either, at over $100 per unit. Still, convenience and redundancy are real benefits, not to mention that filters clog up and there are other concerns with “traditional” chemical treatment methods, like chemical degradation and improper dosing. This unit removes those specific problems.
Sadly, there’s no one perfect solution; there are only trade-offs, which means you need backups and alternatives. Personally, I think I’ll stick with gadgets like the Sawyer mini or Lifestraw for now. But maybe you’ll choose differently after watching the two videos below. Thoughts?
