Hillary Clinton appears mesmerized by WNBA team’s dancing elephant mascot

Love it or hate it, there are a lot of eyeballs on the WNBA these days, and where there are eyeballs, you can be sure Hillary Clinton and her armada of pantsuits are going to show up at some point.

That point was on Monday, with the former first lady, secretary of state, senator and 2016 presidential election loser showing up to watch the New York Liberty take on the Seattle Storm.

But Clinton may not even remember a basketball game taking place, because it sure looked like her favorite part of the night involved the Liberty’s dancing elephant.

Clinton sat next to team owner Clara Tsai in some courtside seats during the game. She also took some time to chat with stars like Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu.

But the biggest star of all was Liberty mascot Ellie.

Yes, Ellie the Elephant … they must have been up against their lunch break when they were working on that name.

But, Ellie is one of the WNBA’s premier mascots, up there with What’s-its-name, and that other one.

And, when you see what this hoops-loving pachyderm can do — and more importantly, Clinton’s reaction to it — you’ll understand,

Now, that was very impressive mascottery… but I’ve also seen the clip of Clinton reacting to falling balloons at the 2016 Democratic National Convention as if she had just walked into Willy Wonka’s factory.

She looked like she was having the time of her life. I bet if you asked her, she’d tell you that person in an elephant costume doing a headstand was the best show she has seen since she went to see “Some Like It Hot” on Broadway and stayed until the end even after someone ripped a deuce in the aisle.

But I think we can all agree: the Broadway adaptation of a Marilyn Monroe classic is now an anthropomorphic elephant waving its legs in the air at halftime of a WNBA game … it might be better.
