Media Spin Machine in Overdrive Describing Giffords’ Endorsement of Hochul

We know that New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is a gun grabber. She tried to act pro-gun when she was having to win a somewhat rural district in the state legislature, but the moment she moved to statewide office, the mask came off, and we saw who she was.

Since taking office, Hochul has been in the midst of an absolute jihad against gun rights, even while being slapped down via the Bruen decision.

We also know what Giffords is. It’s a gun control organization. It favors gun control in pretty much all its forms, with the founder literally being quoted as calling for no more guns.

But luckily for them, USA Today is ready to fire up the old spin cycle and present the group’s endorsement of an anti-gun governor as something else entirely.

New York Governor’s Race This Week is a weekly column by USA TODAY Network-New York reporters highlighting aspects of the 2026 campaign to lead the Empire State.

A national gun violence protection organization co-founded by former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords endorsed Gov. Kathy Hochul and her running mate on Thursday, April 9.

GIFFORDS, which was founded after the Congresswoman was shot during a political event in Arizona in 2011, publicly announced its support for the incumbent and her choice for lieutenant governor, former New York City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams.

“Throughout their careers, both Governor Hochul and Speaker Adams have proven their commitment to building safer communities and fighting gun violence, making them the leaders that New York needs right now. It is a privilege to support New York’s first all-women ticket, and I am proud to endorse both of these champions in the fight to save lives,” Giffords said.

“I know Governor Hochul and Speaker Adams will always stand up against gun lobby interests, prioritize community-based solutions and continue the fight for commonsense gun laws in New York. I look forward to continuing to partner with both as we work to keep children and families safe from New York City to Buffalo and beyond.”

Hochul said she’s “deeply honored” to receive the organization’s support.

Of course, Hochul invoked the old “commonsense gun safety laws” chestnut that we’ve heard so many times. To her credit, Hochul actually acknowledges gun control is the plan, even as USA Today and Giffords pretend it’s just about “gun violence prevention.”

This is a lie. It’s always been a lie. It’s not about preventing so-called gun violence. It’s about one thing and one thing only, and that’s curtailing our right to keep and bear arms.

How do we know that? By looking at their own website.

Literally everything is about getting gun laws passed. Nothing at all is about counseling services or programs that help people get out of the violent crime cycle. There’s nothing about working to prevent the domino effect of violent crime in our inner cities. It’s just about passing laws that restrict access to guns.

No, this isn’t some new revelation. I’m just sick and tired of seeing literally every single media outlet presenting these groups as being about “safety” or “gun violence prevention” when they’re not. They’re nothing of the sort, and anyone with half a brain should be able to see that plain as day. While journalists aren’t exactly rocket scientists, even they should be able to see the truth.

The fact that they keep doing this, keep spinning for these organizations, isn’t just some oversight. It can’t be a simple misunderstanding. It’s intentional.

And they wonder why trust in the mainstream media is at an all-time low.

Pro-tip: Quit lying for your political allies and instead recognize that you either shouldn’t have political allies or, barring that, acknowledge your biases so we all know you’re full of crap.

Editor’s Note: The mainstream media continues to lie about gun owners and the Second Amendment.
