Note to Scottish Columnist: We Don’t Care That You Think Gun Control is Good

The United Kingdom is a place I can no longer think of as a free nation. When a woman gets arrested for a deleted comment on X and is sentenced to more time than many violent offenders, it’s impossible for me to look at the country that allows that as free.

Interestingly enough, this stuff all seemed to happen well after they forced everyone to give up their guns unless they met some very specific criteria, which largely means the population is neutered and can’t do anything about this level of oppression.

The reason this matters, though, is that a Scottish op-ed takes advantage of an impending visit to England by President Donald Trump to try and demand the president push gun control here in the United States.

So, what of the other burning issue, that of gun control, back in the USA and Trump’s refusal to effectively deal with the matter.

Instead, all we hear are his condolences, extended to families that have lost a loved one in yet another mass shooting.

Here are some alarming statistics.

From 1994 to 2023-gun ownership increased by 28 per cent in America. In 2023, approximately 16.7 million firearms were sold and in the first four months of 2024 nearly 5.5 million firearms were sold, averaging around 1.3 million per month.

It is estimated that in the US there are about 393 million firearms, that is 120.5 firearms for every 100 American residents.

About 32 per cent of Americans say that they own a gun, with 66 per cent of gun owners having more than one and 29 per cent of gun owners having more than five.

Federal law does not limit the number of guns a person may buy in any given time period, making it easy for some individuals to build up their own personal arsenal which has, unfortunately, been evidenced in many mass shootings.

The Johns Hopkins, Bloomberg School of Public Health’s Center for Gun Violence Solutions, reported that gun suicides account for more than half of all total gun deaths in the US.

The author goes on and on quoting anti-gun outlets as if they’re neutral, authoritative sources, then asks, “What say you, Donald!”

Well, I’m not the president, but I’ve got an answer for the Edinburgh Evening News’ Steve Cardownie just the same.

“We fought a war that started with the UK government trying to disarm Americans 250 years ago, as of this year, all so we didn’t have to give a flying toss what people on that side of the ocean thought about our gun laws, and we’ll gladly do it again if we must.”

More than that, we can criticize our government, take unpopular stands on various issues on social media, and can’t be arrested for any of it. We can defend ourselves from attackers because we haven’t been beaten down to the point that we’re not going to take down a government that allows rape gangs to groom our children.

14-year-old girls don’t have to carry two bladed weapons to keep groomers at bay.

In short, we don’t give a damn what you think about our gun laws. We’re a free nation, and freedom is messy. It means that we have the means to take down any administration at any time. Guns aren’t the first choice for any of us for that, but if words fail us as they’ve now failed the British people, including those in Scotland, we have a way to push back.

You all gave up your rights because you didn’t value them.

We’re not going to make that same mistake because some Cheeto-filled crackpot in the UK thinks we should.

But if you really want our guns, feel free to come on over and try to take them. That would be amusing.

Editor’s note: While there’s not much chance of the British people forcing political change in the US, we have plenty of folks here who want the same regime as the Brits have.
