The Second Amendment isn’t a partisan issue. However, how we view it sure looks partisan as hell. Sure, there are anomalies in both parties, but that’s largely the case on every issue. There’s rarely an issue where every Republican or every Democrat is 100 percent in lockstep, even if they might seem to vote that way.
But Virginia looks a little different these days. A lot of Virginians voted for Democrats for office because they ran on things like affordability, and looking at my grocery bill, I can understand why they would. Things are expensive; they haven’t gotten cheaper, really, and people are more than a little sick of it.
It’s just unfortunate that instead of addressing affordability, Democrats jumped on gun control, gerrymandering, and raising taxes.
These guys just took office this year, though, so one might think that most Democratic candidates would toe the line on these issues, at least to some degree. Instead, it seems one is bucking the entire agenda.
A political newcomer and former reality star running in Virginia’s Democratic senatorial primary is causing an uproar in his party after breaking with them on gerrymandering and a slew of new gun control efforts.
Mark Moran, a former contestant on the HBOMax series “FBoy Island” and previously a Wall Street banker, is challenging longtime Senate Intelligence Committee ranking member Mark R. Warner, D-Va., whom he calls an “oligarch” who is no longer serving his constituents.
Warner is the former richest and now fourth-richest senator, with a net worth upwards of $200 million, and is running for his fourth term despite a snippet unearthed by Moran showing him pledging to serve only two.
“Since the establishment is already mad at me, here’s another truth: Virginia Democrats are completely wrong on the Second Amendment,” Moran said on X after invoking the ire of Virginia’s top Senate Democrat for opposing her politically-charged redistricting effort.
“After facing a personal safety issue, I got a gun. It made me realize how extreme our party’s stance has become,” Moran said. “Dan Helmer’s (loser) July 1st ban literally classifies regular handguns as ‘assault firearms’ so the government can take them away.”
Helmer, a Democratic state delegate from Fairfax, did not respond to a request for comment. He already launched a bid to run in one of the newly-drawn, allegedly gerrymandered congressional districts that have yet to be approved by the voters on April 21.
Moran said the Founding Fathers crafted the Second Amendment to protect the U.S. from tyranny.
A lot of officials in the party aren’t really thrilled with Moran over this, which is a ringing endorsement in my book.
Look, seeing a Democratic candidate who actually acknowledges what gun rights mean is refreshing. He sure doesn’t sound like his fellow Democrats in the Old Dominion State, and we’re here for it.
The very best way to protect our Second Amendment rights is to flip the Democrats into a pro-gun party as well. Yes, that’s about as likely as fart in church being welcomed by the choir’s singing, but the sad truth is that I’m right. If Republicans defend gun rights, and Democrats defend gun rights, and they both do it because the Second Amendment is about defending our nation from tyranny, then we have no more threats to our right to keep and bear arms.
Considering how much of the left suddenly started sounding pro-gun after the shooting death of Alex Pretti, it’s not as difficult to imagine that some Democrat might actually harbor pro-gun views, relatively speaking.
Does that mean Moran will win? Who knows. He’s going to have the entire Democratic Party gunning for him, and unless Virginians are a lot more pissed off than I think they are, which is still pretty angry, then it’s unlikely they’re going to back him. Especially since, unfortunately, even pro-gun Democrats tend to fail to demand pro-gun Democratic candidates.
But it is an open primary state, from what I recall, so do with that knowledge what you will if you live there.
If the general election is between two pro-gun candidates, suddenly the issue isn’t that big of a deal, you know? Then you can vote on other issues without a concern in the world.
Editor’s Note: The radical left will stop at nothing to enact their radical gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
