Why Anti-Gun Lawmakers Ignore Second Amendment

We know good and well that the Second Amendment says “shall not be infringed.” We all know what that means. Still, anti-gunners keep arguing that gun control is constitutional. They might bring up the militia clause, but they can’t illustrate how that overrides the last four words. They don’t even try, really. They simply proclaim it and we’re expected to accept it.

Obviously, we don’t and won’t.

But why do they seem to feel like they don’t have to? Why is it that they believe they can ignore the text of the Second Amendment?

Howard Sachs, writing at American Thinker, used a metaphor to describe gun control that, I think, is important. It’s important because it really does kind of explain some of this.

We all carry the child inside. The 40-year-old plumber, the tough, hardened CEO, the Marine storming the beach, the President of the U.S. in the Situation Room — all carry the kid inside. It’s not bad or good. It’s just part of who we are as humans- part and parcel of “the architecture of the human mind” as the brilliant Professor Gad Saad would frame it. 

The adult, tapping into this kid down inside, may sometimes be enriching and productive. It’s wonderful to channel that kid again-playing monster vs. Spiderman with one’s grandkids. But, as with most things in life, good things also come with dangers. The adult who channels the child in inappropriate ways and at wrong times can lead himself to terrible places with awful consequences. This is what we now have in America- millions of Democrats in adult bodies channeling their child to shape and move through the world.

In this particular Maryland case regarding guns, the world is seen by the Democrat as a puerile Unicornia where nasty, loud, yucky, dangerous guns must be banned, except for those massive numbers left in the hands of the kind, gentle, and always considerate Moms and Dads of Government. The State as parent will, from their perspective, use them to stop bad guys despite the adult fact that bad guys are usually long gone by the time Mom and Dad arrive. And, of course, from the view of our Bernies, AOC’s, Warrens, and Mamdanis, the powerfully armed Mom and Dad would never turn those guns on their own wards. This, despite the adult mind knowing that ever since homo sapiens came down from the trees, such State parental leaders, drunk with power, have been regularly oppressive, tyrannizing, raping, stealing from, and murdering their flocks.

I think Sachs makes a pretty good comparison, in part because it also explains why they seem to feel they don’t figure they need to explain how infringing on the rights of law-abiding people will make us safer when criminals ignore those laws. Parents don’t always feel the need to explain the rules to the kids. Sometimes, they should, but other times, well, “Because I said so” should be enough.

But we’re not children. We’re adults. 

Still, the “nanny state” mentality is very real. It’s why some cities have banned things like free soda refills or massively large drinks from fast food restaurants, or at least considered it. There’s an obesity problem in this country, and you cannot be trusted to make decisions for yourself, so the state will.

Guns are big and scary. Bad people do bad things with them. So, as a result, no one should have them. Since they can’t actually do that, they’ll simply do as much as they can to make it so you won’t have them.

The Second Amendment doesn’t matter to them because they see us as badly behaved children who need to be kept in check, regardless of what the law actually says. They’re not just paternal, but a controlling, abusive kind of paternal. They know better than the law of the land, and they won’t be told they can’t smack their children to get compliance.

The difference is that an actual abusive parent knows he or she is doing wrong, which is why they try to cover it up. These abusive parental stand-ins don’t, which is why they broadcast what they’re intended to do the whole way.
